Ecologist with a passion for plants, pollinators, evolution and understanding climate change. Lover of pie, bugs, and science education. Tweets my own.
Two papers recently published in @Nature by @mel_ittology and Guillaume Ghisbain suggest a scary future for bees. Likely a few species will fair better, and the authors suggest helpful solutions. But...it's not looking great. We need to act fast y'all.
How will climate change affect bees and bumblebees?
Evidence reveals how extreme climate might affect long-term population stability. @NMStruttmann@websteru discusses the conservation implications https://t.co/Ki20h9npbu
Do you love data science and want to cry? Do you want to see the UGLIEST #rstats plot to ever exist? Look no further because my students crushed their good plot/bad plot assignment and really took making the worst plots possible to heart. #ggplot🧵⬇️
Yesterday I was asked: “what are the 5 things you think everyone needs to know?”
So, I thought I’d share them here too:
1. This chart from the IPCC 6th Assessment Synthesis report, released this week, shows just how far away we are from limiting warming to below 2C: (1/11)
A central goal with my students is to help them find & actively look for climate hope.
Finding doom is easy. Finding & building hope takes action & community.
Students, already linked in the community of a classroom, just need to see themselves as a unit of collective strength

We’re hiring for a restoration ecologist position at my work. It’s a 3-4 year funded position working on a grassland reconstruction following major soil disturbance from a pipeline construction project. https://t.co/km8UcLAniI
In 2018, three colleagues and I published a front-cover paper in @PNASNews
It has > 170 citations as of 2022, and it was a success that might not have happened:
• We had $0 budget
• We had no PI (Principal Investigator)
• We had no credentials
[Here's how we did it] 🧵
UPDATE: Global average sea level has risen over 101 mm (almost 4 inches) since 1993 as a result of human-caused global warming, with recent rates being unprecedented over the past 2,500-plus years. https://t.co/f8Cpqo7QQT
