An incredible and unique wetland area is under threat from an expensive, destructive and unnecessary highway. 97.7 ha of urban bushland! thousands of creatures!
@eljimberino@ConservationWA SBW referred the Murdoch Drive Connection (Roe 8 Stage 1) to the EPA and worked hard to get Roe 8 approvals removed west of Bibra Dve. if deals were done...they weren't ours. Even if we had the power to we would never have done anything to bring on that mess.
Roe 8 offsets were never adequate- unfortunately we did not have a strong enough legislative framework to be able to win our case in court. Great to see some academic analysis of the paucity of offsets published. https://t.co/I3Riu6Ctci

Let’s not forget that many proposals for public transport expansion and better network planning have come and gone over many, many decades, with politicians minimizing and ignoring that need, instead selling us pipe dreams/big road projects that solve nothing #4corners
One year on, what is happening with Roe 8?
All may not be as it seems with the state’s most controversial road project.

I’ve supported @theWAPC recomm to not proceed with the Metropolitan Region Scheme that would enable a proposed marina development at Mangles Bay. WAPC said the proposal was too big compared to the overall Point Peron precinct and would impact on local lakes. Proposal withdrawn.

Roe 8 was a bad idea with profound costs both economic and environmental. We need a better plan and process for transport and infrastructure functionality. https://t.co/CG3o7rlfdi
