“They were careless people… they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”
- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
when my gf and i met @suzietoot at beaches (pre-iconic lalaparuza wig), upon revealing that we were dating she exclaimed “I LOVE LESBIANS” 🫶 ms. toot has always loved us and we love her!!
any anti-homeless or looting propaganda u see over the next few days is an attempt by the ppl systemically responsible for these fires to absolve themselves of blame, change nothing, and get more money for their police state. it’s bs and won’t stop this from happening again
my hope is that as those who were once lucky enough to have big, beautiful, multimillion dollar homes realize that all of that wealth still wasn’t enough to spare them from the climate crisis, it will fuel more political will to change things for all of our sakes.
You gotta have better analysis than “LA is where rich people live lollll”. The nations second largest city is full of working people, homeless people, pets, all kinds of wildlife. This is an unmitigated tragedy where no one wins. Grow up.
LA is largely comprised of normal ass people who are not rich and famous and I’m sick of the fact that grown ass ppl On Here think that the best time to share their ignorance about this city and its inhabitants is when LA is experiencing a devestating series of fires.
thinking of the incarcerated fire fighters who are out there risking their lives for their fellow californians, with little to no benefits, slave wage pay, and the inability to use their skills upon release.
This is likely to be one of my more controversial takes, but ultimately the smell produced by a homeless person taking shelter from the cold on public transport is *harmless*. It might be unpleasant, but it can be tolerated (or avoided) in the name of compassion.
