Potomkin Party (PP) sponsored/affiliated pundits - Horn Review et el - are indeed a strange breed who can float, with a straight face, outlandish and ludicrous assertions cloaked in "academic" garb.

The latest version dwells on "prospects" for Ethiopia to "rescind its Mother State's Permission" and recognition of Eritrea!

In the first place, Eritrea's independence was not granted on a "silver platter" by Ethiopia or any other power on earth.

Indeed, Eritrea's process of decolonization and inalienable right of independence should have been accomplished in the 1940's in accordance with international law and established norms and practices. But this inalienable right was suppressed to give primacy for, and mollify the "overriding geopolitical interests" of, the US and other powers. In the event, the Eritrean people were compelled to pay a huge sacrifice in Africa's longest war of national liberation to achieve their independence.

These are the indelible facts. And for their own sanity, apologists of occupation and colonial rule better grapple with their emotional/moral crises instead of wasting time in an elusive quest for untenable legal conjectures.

Brief Remarks on "Open Letter to President Isaias Afwerki

A group of 85 Oromo scholars and professionals posted an "Open Letter to President Isaias Afwerki" on June 5, 2025.

The "Letter" is regrettably replete with inaccuracies and contains a number of grave and unfounded accusations against Eritrea.

This cannot but arouse our dismay, particularly as the authors could have chosen a more appropriate approach of face to face discussions if the real motive, is, as it should be, to ally lingering misunderstandings or perspectives on matters of paramount importance to Eritrea and the Oromo people.

In this spirit, Eritrea believes that the most constructive way to address these matters remains through a frank, face to face, dialogue between signatories of the Letter or their representatives with relevant Eritrean counterparts.

In the meantime, and for the record, we wish to reiterate Eritrea's long-standing views and positions:
1. Eritrea has utmost respect for the Oromo people and their culture.
2. Eritrea's resolute solidarity with, and strong support for, the Ethiopian people, and in particular the Oromo people's struggle in pursuit of their fundamental rights, has spanned over half a century.
3. In this respect, the reference to political Orommuma in President Isaias' speech does not detract from its principled respect for the Oromo people and alludes to vexing ideological interpretations and overtones that have come to light in the recent couple of years from certain and unrepresentative quarters.
4. Eritrea is unwaveringly committed to peace and justice in the Horn of Africa. It is no secret that the drum beating and drive for war is not coming from Eritrea but from those who are openly agitating for the conquest of sovereign Eritrean territories.

Bizarre and galling: testimonies submitted at the US congressional hearing this week reveal that USAID was indeed funneling financial support to Al-Shebaab. This was all the while when Washington leveraged its diplomatic clout to impose, and maitain for ten long years, unwarranted sanctions against Eritrea (UNSC Resolutions 2009 & 2011) under fabricated charges and dubious "SEMG" annual reports.

But if this was yesteryear, the EU and the UN-OHCHR apparently continue to use, even in these times, the same playbook, and the same "credible sources", to peddle false and outrageous allegations against Eritrea at the Enhanced Interactive Dialogue that was convened in Geneva early this week.

Motely group of inept trolls/political pigmies seem to have contracted a severe strain of Eri-Influenza these days... Their obsession for posting defamatory posts on everything "Eritrean" on a daily basis is bordering on the insane.

It is absolutely unacceptable to see such a misleading map presented under the AU Foreign Ministerial Conference, one that fails to accurately represent the true borders of African nations—particularly Eritrea, Djibouti, and Somalia, to name a few. If this was deliberately manipulated by none other than Ethiopia, then @AU must launch a thorough investigation into this matter. Not only should this map be removed immediately without any delay, but the AU must also issue a public apology for allowing such a distortion to be presented under its platform. President Isaias Afwerki has sent a warm message of Congratulations - on behalf of the Government and people of Eritrea, and on his own behalf - to President-elect Donald Trump on his "historic comeback and election as the 47th President of the United States of America".

In his message, President Isaias underlined that President Trump's election "has occurred at a very crucial time when global peace is of paramount importance more than ever before". In this respect, "we extend to you our best wishes for success in your pronounced position on this critical objective", President Isaias added.

President Isaias concluded his message of congratulations by expressing his hopes that President Trump's "election will open a new chapter of fruitful and constructive ties of cooperation between Eritrea and the US".

President Isaias Afwerki met at Adi Halo today a delegation of the African Continental Free Trade Area, (AfCFTA), led by Secretary General Mr. Wamkele Mene.

President Isaias underlined imperative for African countries to marshall their natural resources and human capital & embark on extensive industrialization based on requisite, developed, infrastructure so as to export processed goods rather than raw materials. This will create congenial climate for free trade within the continent.

President Isaias further dwelt on the pitfalls and impediments African countries face in pursuing independent policies when and as they seek financing from international financial instutions in these endeavours. In the event, it is vital that they create their own coordinated and effective African financial institutions equipped with new regulations and modalities of trade. African countries can indeed register joint & synergic growth by focussing on specific projects that leverage and coordinate the necessary professional expertise, President Isaias noted.

The AfCFTA Secretary General, for his part, elaborated on the primary purpose of the visit which was centered on fostering consultations with the GOE on current status and potential oppportunties of industrialization in the African continent as well as modalties of free trade to propel and expedite joint progress. The Secretary General stressed the urgency of taking meaningful measures at this juncture inorder to kick-start the process even if Africa may not be fully ready for such engagements at this point in time.

The Tripartite (Eritrea-Egypt-Somalia) Summit held in Asmara early this month seems to have sparked a plethora of analyses - mostly speculative and presumptuous especially in their interpretations of Eritrea's regional policy - by self-styled pundits on the Horn. This week's article on The Hill on the same subject by a certain Imran Khalid is a case in point.

As elucidated in a previous article published last year (see link below), "Eritrea ardently believes in, and has devoted much time and energy to, the promotion of regional ties of cooperation and harmony on the basis of legality and mutual interests... Its track-record illustrates/corroborates its unflinching commitment to legality for the resolution of good-faith disputes among all Member States".

President Isaias Afwerki met, in the early afternoon hours today at Denden Guest House, Egyptian delegation led by Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty.

In the extensive meeting - which is part and parcel of the periodic Consultative Forums that both countries hold in Asmara and Cairo respectively - the two sides discussed in greater depth, bilateral matters and regional issues of mutual importance; especially current developments in the Sudan, the Federal Republic of Somalia, as well as, the security of the Red Sea.

The two sides underlined that enhancement of the bilateral ties between Eritrea and Egypt consitutes one of the key pillars of regional peace and stability.

In this respect, both sides agreed to further upgrade the prevailing bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the economic, political, trade, agricultural, energy and health sectors.

The two sides categorically noted that Egypt does not espouse an agenda of regional destabilization and interference.

Misconstruing these facts to peddle unwarranted statements and accusations by some quarters is thus hollow and merely invoked to rationalize their strategic mistakes.

President Isaias Afwerki and his delegation returned home at 1:00 a.m. early this morning after a week-long, fruitful, visit to China.

During their stay in China, President Isaias and his delegation participated at the 9th FOCAC Summit; held extensive talks with President Xi Jinping as well as Prime Minister Li Qiang on further strengthening the strategic bilateral ties between the two countries; and, visited a number of relevant Chinese enterprises that have pivotal role within the broader bilateral cooperation framework.

President Isaias and his delegation also held bilateral consultations, on the margins of the FOCAC Summit, with Heads of State and Government in the HOA Region.

On September 1, 1961, 63 years ago, Hamid Idris Awate with his six fellow freedom fighters shot the first bullet for freedom from #Adal at 09:00 Eritrean Time. They had six old guns but they had the courage and commitment.
September 1, 1961 marked the beginning of #Eritrean Armed Struggle for Independence. The Armed Struggle lasted for 30 years. The Eritrean armed struggle was the longest armed national liberation struggle in #Africa & highly developed & effective armed struggle in the world.
-Many of the largest & biggest battles after #WWII; Red Star 1982, #Nadew 1988, #Fenkil 1990 & others, were fought in #Eritrea.

-Between 1974 & 1991, #Ethiopia lost about 479,589 troops (1% of Ethiopia's then population of 46 million). From 1961 to 1974, Ethiopia under Emperor Hailesilassie spent about 500 million U.S dollar, close to 5 billion U.S dollar worth today, and from 1974 to 1991 Ethiopia, under the Derg, spent 50% of its GDP to quash the Eritrean Armed Struggle for Independence. Eritrea lost more than 65,000 her finest freedom fighters in the liberation war. 30% of Eritrean freedom fighters were women.

-On September 1, 1939 WWII started and then #Allied Powers betrayed Eritreans and made Eritrea a federal unit under the #feudal Ethiopian Empire. When Emperor Haileselassie began gradually dismantling the #UnitedNations-sponsored Federation, Eritreans began the War of Liberation. And on Nov. 14, 1962 the Ethiopian Emperor dismantled the Federation, occupied and annexed Eritrea.
