Men & women get addicted to porn.
Straight, gay, bi, & trans people get addicted to porn.
People of varying nationalities & races & ages get addicted to porn.
Christians & Muslims & Jews & Atheists & Buddhists get addicted to porn.
This is a HUMAN issue,
It is ridiculous when adult industry associates smear recovery resources and therapists as “profiteers” and "for-profit".
The adult industry makes billions per year. Recovery resources operate on budgets that are a tiny fraction of the money flowing through the adult industry.
Porn addiction is a health issue and shouldn’t be made into a culture war.
It isn't about
- Religion
- Politics
- Banning porn
- Morality of porn
- Saying everyone has to stop using porn
- Pathologizing high libido
- Demonizing performers
- Purity or abstinence
- Shaming people
@lsanger Our attorneys filed a lawsuit against Pornhub over the Wikipedia page astroturfing, among other misconduct. The case is currently pending in federal court.
https://t.co/5eAU0BKDnz
The Wikipedia page about our website—the largest peer-support platform for porn addiction recovery—was astroturfed by dozens of accounts connected to an individual collaborating with Pornhub and its lobbying group to target us with disinformation.
The page is controlled by a Wikipedia power user who collaborates with that same porn industry associate and protects edits made by the sockpuppet accounts.
We alerted Wikipedia, and they did nothing.
Whatever is going on over there is deeply broken.
This is not just speculation.
We have heard directly from researchers who avoid this topic because they fear harassment, smears, lost opportunities, and professional retaliation.
One scientist told us that they advise students to avoid pornography research.
Many scientists recognize problematic pornography use as a potential behavioral addiction.
Others are afraid to speak about it because they fear harassment and smears from porn industry associates—and losing professional opportunities.
This chilling effect suppresses the field.
Hi! Indeed, pornography is not currently classified by the APA as a behavioral addiction. But a substantial body of research has emerged, and many researchers and clinicians believe it fits the behavioral addiction model.
If you recognize gambling addiction, on what basis do you dismiss porn addiction as a “media construct”?
Do you believe it could never be formally recognized as an addiction by the APA or WHO?
@BBCNews Thank you to Freddie Woodward for speaking openly about struggling with pornography—even while training at the highest level of sport. Problematic porn use is real, can affect anyone, and people who want to quit deserve support rather than shame or dismissal. And thanks @BBCNews.
THE PORN INDUSTRY IS ATTEMPTING TO GET NOFAP DEPLATFORMED FROM DISCORD:
Hi @discord_support and @discord,
You were recently contacted by a PhD who is collaborating with Pornhub and its lobbying group to spread disinformation about NoFap and advocate for our deplatforming.
Notably, multiple accounts associated with this individual have previously been banned from our platforms, including Discord, after posing as community members and posting rule-violating content.
Our federal lawsuit against Pornhub alleges this same pattern of conduct:
https://t.co/kaIsMAPj8R
Our Discord server is strictly moderated. Nevertheless, porn industry associates have repeatedly infiltrated our community to post rule-violating content and search for material they can use to advocate for our deplatforming. At the same time, pornography trolls have targeted our members by posting explicit material and attempting to disrupt our recovery community. Porn industry associates then point to that pornography as supposed evidence that our platforms present a risk to users, using the very misconduct directed at us to further advocate for our deplatforming.
People recovering from porn addiction should be able to participate on Discord without being targeted, harassed, or subjected to efforts to deplatform their recovery community.
Kind regards.
@megaroeny We're suing them. But our ability to realistically stay online might soon be over. 🤷♂️
Our traffic and reach are a fraction of what they used to be. Even our posts about this barely get noticed. The adult industry's campaign to suppress our website has been extremely successful.
For years, top leadership in the adult industry has tried to shut down our website.
Harassment. Hit pieces. Wikipedia astroturfing. False police reports.
They have targeted 70+ scientists, therapists, etc. One victim committed suicide.
We may not stay online much longer.
We follow OnlyFans on X to engage cordially and raise awareness about porn addiction.
We’ve always been open to cordial discussions about recovery and preventing underage access, including with porn websites and performers.
Plus, unlike some of their competitors, @OnlyFans appears to have at least some measures to restrict underage access and address illegal content.
MANY scientists, doctors, & therapists believe problematic pornography use can fit within a behavioral addiction model.
@WHO first recognized compulsive sexual behavior disorder in 2018
Just because the DSM doesn’t currently categorize porn addiction doesn’t mean it never will.
However, the outlook is bleak. Many people have avoided or left the recovery field due to harassment from pornography industry associates. Work in this area is not tenable for most. There is a real risk we may be forced to shut down—and if we do, we want a clear record of why.
Because of sustained targeting by pоrn industry associates, our website has been barely functional for years. We hope to return to our mission—e.g., improve the platform, expand resources, collaborate with more scientists and clinicians, and support more people seeking recovery.
@camjenglish@kangminlee Hello there—would you be open to following us so we can DM you, or alternatively emailing us at [email protected]?
You've written about us before:

@justindubinmd Hmm? This is confusing because we think that masturbation is generally healthy! We're a peer support website for porn addiction recovery. Internet porn didn't exist 150 years ago. We're certainly not against moderate masturbation.
