Ever walked out of a store or mall feeling oddly drained, even without shopping much? 🛍️😵💫 It’s often not the crowd or the lights. It’s the noise. By the time you move through a few stores, your head is spinning.

India has made progress in many areas.
But one daily health hazard still surrounds millions of people.
Noise.
Not sudden noise. Constant noise.
Noise pollution in urban India is an unacknowledged public health crisis.
What surrounds us every day eventually shapes our health, our minds, and our future.

👂 Did you know? Noise is one of India’s biggest hidden health hazards.
But change is on the way. 🌿

An India Positive Citizen initiative.
Visited Dakshinayin restaurant today in Juhu. Excellent food. No unpleasant after taste (this happens in a lot of other places).
Nice decor. Loved the kolam design on the tables.
Wish they would address the decibel level. The hard surfaces amplify the noise.
For some reason, they put the upi payment announcement on the loudspeaker. Each time a person pays, the whole restaurant can hear " Paytm par Rs 123 prapt hue." Tried reasoning with the manager. He had some strange logic of how they don't otherwise come to know about the payment. It was too loud to discuss further. Perhaps next time.
This, though, reflects the approach of most restaurants in India. Noise is a non-issue for them.
This may partly explain the growing preference for ordering food home VS going to the restaurant - bad roads (in Mumbai), noise en route, and a din at the restaurant.

At a local supermarket today, I suddenly heard loud music. English songs. Thought it was the store team.
It was a consumer who was playing the song from YouTube on speaker mode. The blaring mobile was in his cart.
He was blithely moving around being a nuisance.
Spoke with a store associate who told him to stop the noise.
This is a problem in trains , metro, airports , lobbies etc . First time to see this in a shop.
Educated Indians now need instructions on such basic issues ?
We need a #SwachhBharat abhiyan to reduce the acoustic debris in our cities.
Requesting all who tend to play loud music /video on speaker mode in public places - pl use earphones.
Those who see people making unnecessary noise take steps to stop it - speak with the person or the authority who manages that space.
Doing nothing will normalise such noise and and uncivil conduct.

There is no silence in most parts of urban India.
Noise pervades through the day and most part of the night.
While govts and civic bodies ignore the enormous health risk that noise pollution poses.

Could silence be the ultimate brain boost?
Studies reveal that quiet time doesn’t just calm your mind—it can spark the growth of new brain cells. Silence stimulates the hippocampus, a key brain region for memory and emotional balance, increasing the production of neurons that support cognitive function and mental well-being.
Sometimes, the most powerful tool for your brain is simply… silence.

When in Thailand! Get down off the car stuck in the traffic jam and take a motorcycle taxi. It was fun and quicker. This single shot selfie video is right till my room in the hotel. Achcha laga? 😍😬😍 #FunThingToDo
#Autobesity is here in India!
Congratulations @Mahindra_Auto and @Tataev for rightly identifying the aspirations of the Indian Middle Class and feeding them with larger, safer, louder cars while the space and safety for those outside gets more and more compromised!
Also, let’s stop calling them cars and start calling them trucks!
They say Extreme times need extreme measures.
While not practical, what if @MORTHIndia bans horns, and overtaking on city roads?
I believe half the problems arise from these two due to huge impatience of Indian drivers.
Will people settle down and learn to drive more courteously? Will they learn to share the road?

An important issue of our country but mostly ignored.

Losing just one hour of sleep could take you four days to recover
➡️The optimum sleep duration is 7-8 hours per night. ➡️Lack of sleep (sleep deprivation) results in various problems, such as poor attention, focus, concentration and memory.
➡️Poor sleep also increases the risk of headache, anxiety and stress.
➡️Sleep deprivation is associated with poor decision making and driving errors, leading to more vehicle crashes.
➡️The most important aspect what I wish to highlight is that: Losing just one hour of sleep could take up to four days time to recover.
➡️Therefore, ensure a regular sleep schedule and sleep for 7-8 hours every night.

3 km from Bullet train station, 1 kilometer from where Tim Cook inaugurated the Apple India flagship store, 200 meters from where one can see a Rolls Royce parked at the HDIL towers.
You might work in a swanky business HQ, but this is how you are reaching here

Finally, a book about noise pollution in India by @savitha_rao@noisynation_ There are many sources of noise pollution in our country such as band baja, religious loud speakers, construction noise, vehicular honking etc. all of which is damaging our health silently.
I think this book should be a part of high school curriculum so the new India realizes what noise pollution is doing to our quality of life and take corrective action. @ncert
