2. Medium income urban areas that have a history with the sport, set aside space for fields, and continue to subsidize sports, can crank out players. My best guess is that an average serviceable 19 year old who played in a Zagreb club is ready for average DIII schools in the USA.

Since #Vatreni won, here's some impressions of the sport as an American who's lived in Croatia for 21 years. I played soccer - badly - as a kid for 10 years and followed my son through the whole Croatian youth system over 12 years. He now plays for his college in the USA.

So basically, 1. When the whole country loves the sport and teaches it to their kids from the time they know how to walk, it's a beautiful sport - even I think most beautiful at younger ages.
