@SGL49801206@FixNOLA@DandyDonnie1954 I wish New Orleans was the anomoly, that would make it easier to fix. But the whole state is broken, so I fail to see how this entire situation makes any of it better. And even worse, now we continue to look like clowns, fighting over an issue that isn’t critical AT ALL.
@SGL49801206@FixNOLA@DandyDonnie1954 Mind you, I think both sides are in the wrong here — am not washing anyone’s hands clean — but that note sounds like a demand, with punitive outcomes for refusal to comply. Even political enemies know how to find compromise when they want it, and this surely wasn’t that.
@SGL49801206@FixNOLA@DandyDonnie1954 Also, what makes them the experts on how to lead?
La. is dead last in the country in the economy & crime, and near the bottom in education, fiscal stability, health care, and infrastructure (US News).
La. also has the highest U.S. poverty rate at 18.9%. We’re not Texas.
@SGL49801206@FixNOLA@DandyDonnie1954 You’re calling Murrill‘s note a “letter reminding officials of the law”?
She said she’d take legal action to remove officials & threatened “personal exposure, fines, imprisonment” if they didn’t drop the clerk dispute
I don’t know if it’s a legal threat, but it’s not friendly
@FixNOLA@DandyDonnie1954 Also, I don’t know if the state has a premium track record on delivering political stability, great infrastructure, solid schools, etc. It’s not as if New Orleans is an anomoly among successful peer cities, Louisiana has a failure problem statewide.
@FixNOLA@DandyDonnie1954 Do you genuinely feel like Liz’s recent approach was built on a foundation of fixing failures, or was it a pissing contest? I’m not saying that New Orleans doesn’t need to change, but I also can’t embrace the state’s tactics. It’s a mess all around.
@JPMorrell Really encourages more companies to invest in New Orleans when your city council goes out of its way to humiliate someone this way just to prove a point. You won at the end of the day, so who cares what he originally wanted. Not everything we do has to look like a circus.
@StrokerAce225@_Matt_Bowers_ The city is literally defying those crime stats as we speak. Just had the fewest murders through the end of May since 1969. Sometimes things change.
@Kpedeaux@GNOinc@neworleansandco One would imagine, and yet the tourism pitch still looks like trombones & the FQ instead of Michelin stars & parks. At least one of the orgs sells the living here to the companies they bring here, the other wants ppl to go home so they can come back & blackout on Bourbon again.
@GoogleAtHome@Kpedeaux@GNOinc@neworleansandco Or those of us here would say that sitting in a car for an hour each way to and from work and choosing between chain restaurants in the parking lots of mini malls, like in most other cities, is worse.
.@Entergy promised me that when they took @Meta on as a client, they would not be passing costs onto rate payers.
The PSC should not allow anyone to take advantage of power markets at the expense of our ratepayers.
@samkarlin Here’s what is missing from the story: the #1 issue for Louisiana voters has been the economy, for decades. Our neighbors to the west in Texas will give companies anything they want, and they’re reaping the benefit. If we don’t play the same game they do, how do we compete?
@MWollenweber I can’t fathom looking at the crime turnaround, hearing how much the NOPD culture has changed from being a place that officers hated to actually liking, and watching how she’s embraced the city only to throw that away over a letter. That’s smart & safe.
@samkarlin Let’s back up to when the state bought the land decades ago for auto manufacturing. Would those car companies have paid taxes? I’m just trying to understand what’s being done that’s “wrong” or out of the ordinary. Is there a preferrred alternative tactic they should be doing?
@samkarlin Each year, what’s the #1 issue LA voters have? The economy? Is bringing new companies here - via unused state land - a way to fix that?
And if we AI skips the state, is thata good move?
This story makes it out like that state is a huge group of morons for doing their jobs.
