@JonLuskin “It will get you more alpha.” Well, if the other assets you put me in weren’t underperforming, I wouldn’t need more alpha. Convo I had with my (then) JPM relationship manager who eventually told me I could take my $&@# money somewhere else if I didn’t like his advice. I did.
@Mitchell_JoshW@MiltonFriedmanW Situation has likely changed since Friedman spoke. “Legal” fraud on disability has to be significant; I’ve encountered numerous people over the years who “can’t work,” but they have no problem doing things they’d prefer to do. Hard to leave once they’re on the gravy train.
@BelieveOnJesus@kevinolearytv Is a gift you give to someone about them, or about you? If it’s about them, then you should want to get them something that they will like. If it’s about you, then you’re a narcissist.
@ChristinaPushaw Society tends to value intelligence more than other abilities, even though other abilities may be of equal or greater value. The “intelligent” can hire the lowly plumber or sanitation worker while they do the *important* work as scientists, physicians, and professors.
@realEstateTrent I've sensed that some brokers have repeat buyers and aren't really interested in talking to anyone else unless they have to. I've had personal referrals to brokers and owners (i.e. a relationship existed) and received a similar response. Some sellers apparently have enough money.
@frag316@Osint613 It *seems* as though Trump wants to “make a deal” because he fancies himself as a great deal maker. It’s a point of pride. I also think they were hoping the regime would fall with the bombing, but now realize that will take a ground operation, which they don’t want to do.
@GimtyDad@NormSNLJokes Children don't know what they want, and most of what they think they want isn't in their best interest, which is why they need mentally-stable parents.
@ClownBasket@boriquagato@BucMon21 Yes, but Boomers are the ones who let this happen. Instead of mentoring young people and holding them accountable to earn leadership positions, they essentially gave up, retired, and rode off into a self-centered sunset.
@BuzzPatterson The airlines are selling the product to the customer, and they are the ones accountable to depart on time and deplane on time. Period. If that isn't happening for whatever reason, it is an operational failiure of the airline.
@PhilipDBunn How much of a problem is something if a story must be contrived to "draw attention to it"? It should go without saying that lying or misleading to generate sympathy or action around something is not an ethically sound practice, and if we value justice, we should value truth.
@investandcreate@Opportunitweet@realEstateTrent Most limited government people are skeptical of levers for government control, and tech such as this is a huge lever. Where I've noticed support for this stuff among "limited government" people is when those people benefit financially from it, or when they're naive.
@BrianRoemmele My local Computerland would sell me items marked “not for resale” and pocket the cash, until my mother found out about it. Another local store kicked me out “if you’re not going to buy anything.” My mother returned and reminded them that my parents had money, but not for them.
@boriquagato@AuronMacintyre No, I am not. I have no idea what’s in this bill because I haven’t read it and I probably wouldn’t support it. However, I also recognize that unrestrained behavior in otherwise free markets can cause collateral damage; the same is true of unrestrained immigration.
@boriquagato@AuronMacintyre So you’re okay with those with the most purchasing power controlling the market? Such markets might operate as free ones, but they aren’t very open ones.
@boriquagato@ash_byte@AuronMacintyre I’m not opposing any remedies for a supply problem. I am suggesting that there can be overwhelming forces in the market which can be anti-competitive, which is undeniably true.
@ash_byte@boriquagato@AuronMacintyre Free market does not mean only the strongest survive. I am generally anti-regulation, but in some cases there needs to be light-touch regulation to ensure markets remain free and open to all. If PE is monopolizing a segment of the market, it really isn’t a free market for all.
@boriquagato@AuronMacintyre Your examples are luxury items and not basic necessities. Housing is a basic necessity. When PE swipes $150 - 250k houses off the market before they're even listed, to turn them into $5k/mo. rentals or $450k flips, there perhaps should be cause for some examination.
@boriquagato@AuronMacintyre Free markets can only work if everyone has access. Tough to argue the new grad making $75k/yr. has access to the housing market when prices are driven beyond his ability to pay, even if inventory is available (an it often isn’t). That’s a merited purpose of regulation.
@boriquagato@AuronMacintyre I’m a free market guy, but PE shouldn’t be competing with individuals for essentials. Supply may help to remedy the price problem, but the scale can be so imbalanced that the market forces become distorted. Government does have a role to help keep the market open.
