@Beervana Not sure if this counts but my German friend said there’s an event in his town where they run 5or10k in pairs with a case of beer. First one to finish with the empty case wins. Drink at the start and run drunk? Drink at the end when your bodies tired? He said it’s great fun
@Beervana I’m sure some are as well, but using ai would be antithetical to the craft ethos. Maybe I’m naive and stuck in the past but I think craft should stand for something. Probably the check with the breweries using artificial flavoring, I’d imagine they’d be likely AI users
@Beervana I like the challenge of making a good/unique one. I hate that bars only seem to want that. I like that people enjoy them because I like making stuff people enjoy, but I can’t take more than 2 drinks of them. And in the end they improved beer overall.
@Miles_Bradley@Beervana GMO yeast is a generic flavor in the same way that citra is a generic flavor. Used correctly it can add a great layor to beer. But online it for the cost savings/eco impact (less heavy hops neeeeisng to be shipped)
@Beervana I saw that two of the most entered categories were lagers, and those had more entries than American IPA. I’d be curious to see how that stacks up against past years
@Beervana@courtiseman Not sure about general life, but I think when you take a salt shaker and shake some salt into your lager that’s one of the signs (or does remembering when dads did this actually make me the old one?)
@Beervana I grew up in the Portland area so I’m always trying to mimic a style of red that I had that I don’t think existed anywhere outside of my memory.
@Beervana We try (this isn’t my brewery’s account) but I’m not great at it. Crisper, usually Callista or Barbe rouge to make the little crystal we use feel more berry. Sometimes hav 472 to make it woody to mimic a barrel or whisky. It’s my career goal to make a good one….
@ABWGraham In Japan we have beer vending machines, but on the streets not in bars (only macrobrew though). No ID check. But cigarette vending machines require ID. Some craft places have vending machines outside their taprooms though, lots of fun to find those hidden gems
@hopnotes Then why do I care what your lager is like or if you k kw know “what’s up”. People expect breweries to be able to make everything, they forget that some of us have specialties
@hopnotes I’d try a beer in a style I like. When I go to breweries I want to drink beer in styles I like, I don’t care about if they can make a good version of a style I don’t drink. You can have a world class Pilsner and still make shit IPAs and if I want an IPA…
@ericriveracooks My girlfriend of one year is a chef; when we started dating I had two bowls. Now I have about 9 that she has slowly snuck into my apartment
@hopburps@LilyWaite_ One guy rated our beers (this ain’t my breweries name btw) as 3.25, which hurts our ratings, but his average is 3. “Best hazy I’ve ever had” then 3.5. And this happens a lot. Star ratings are too arbitrary, even if it was words like “bad, ok, good, really good, amazing”…
@hopburps@LilyWaite_ It would be nice if ratings were private or just seen among friends. Brewers hate Untapped because it hurts our sales when people see a low rated beer but it’s only low rated because it’s a kolsch. I don’t need to see strangers random ratings…
@Beervana@intothebrew My previous brewery was in a renovated preschool that is owned by the temple that is across the street, there was a graveyard 20 feet from grain storages but we used water from the holiest mt. In Japan and made beer that monks used in ceremonies..
@Beervana@intothebrew As for me I work in renovated school, the floor above the brewery is a day care and they are building doctors offices in the building as well. The main part of the school is an aquarium that also has a sloth because… Japan.
