New satellite analysis from the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL) reveals that El Obeid is facing a severe, multidirectional siege by the RSF. Between May and June 2026, targeted bombardments decimated power stations, markets, and at least eight gas stations. All of this happened as a mass influx of displaced persons entered the city. In fact, the number of internally displaced persons in camps has increased from May to June. Meanwhile, SAF forces have dug in behind a 51km network of defensive trenches, bracing for a prolonged battle.

Since the RSF took control of the city of El Fasher from Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on 26 October, multiple videos have emerged revealing a series of mass killings and attacks on civilians.
