I think I might take pride in being "a problem for a sane society". I've seen what ablist and colonialist horrors can follow from societies ordered by "sanity", "rationality", and "objectivity".
Recently Joyce said we need to reduce the number of trans people, even happy, transitioned trans people, “because they are a problem for a sane society.”
this is a 1996 guide on how to help someone use a computer. it’s strikingly resonant with ‘how to be a parent’, or really ‘how to help anyone with anything’. a nice example of “the universal within the particular”
Still hearing “they can’t be autistic—they’re too empathic.” Please stop. Read Damian Milton on the ‘double empathy problem’ and, more importantly, listen to the autistic community. Empathy isn’t one-way, and neither is humanity.
I have been in Srebrenica marking 30 years since the Bosnian Genocide.
There were many international failings that allowed it to happen. Today eyes are rightly on Gaza
It doesn't start with Genocide - it starts with political leaders convincing people neighbours are strangers
I'm actually supremely indifferent to how the law defines women. As I keep saying woman is a social construct.
I'm bothered by what the law now tacitly or overtly legitimates which is the harassment of trans and gender non conform people and enforcement of gender stereotypes
if you can’t use public toilets, then you can’t leave the house for more than 3 hours. if you can’t use work toilets, you can’t work outside the home. if you have power over a public toilet in your workplace, you need to be wielding it right now to secure it for trans people
Blatant misogyny lies at the heart of the so-called gender-critical movement. I say this because its entire belief of what it means to be a woman is built on outdated tropes and shifting sands. // Mhairi Black
@compassbus Do you publish your fare stages for the 37b anywhere? I only make a short hop to work but it's costing £2.30. How can I find out what it would cost if I got on at a later stop or got off sooner?
The point of the daily constant psychological attacks from this admin (just like his 1st term) is to trigger crisis/trauma responses so much, so often, so early that your mind and body just gives up and they can do whatever
Very sad but well written article about the dangers of mental health services in the UK
“Nobody could help me with my psychosis. Then I was sent to jail for holding up a shop with a toy gun” https://t.co/dPpYvlfuUz
As someone training to be a therapist I think about this often... Therapy as an institution has been shaped by/ born from capitalism and colonialism. It's a poor replacement for things typical to indigenous life (community, elders, connection to body and land, griefwork etc)
The greatest fantasy world wasn't made by J K Rowling or George R R Martin, or even Tolkein. It was made by Terry Pratchett. It's only the fact that no one has ever made a decent screen adaption of Discworld that more people don't think so.
