Warning to motorists about new scam - fake hit and run

A new scam has been reported on the R43 between Hawston and Fisherhaven, where a scene is staged with a young person lying at the side of the road, seemingly injured by a car.

Earlier this week, when motorists stopped to assist and called for an ambulance and the police, they were warned by authorities that it was a scam attempting to rob or steal from the unsuspecting drivers, including taking their cellphones.

Motorists are advised to stay alert and avoid stopping for such incidents. Instead, they should contact their nearest police station or the Overstrand Municipal Law Enforcement number to report any accidents.
