Theory: optimize for your remembering self over your experiencing self.
Paradox: at times, prioritizing your experiencing self IS optimized for your remembering self.
Example: spending time enjoying your loved ones.
How far "out" is reasonable to raise kids?
I would love to live on a lot of land, but I'm concerned about raising kids so far away from other kids and dynamism.
Anyone who's encountered this concern have any thoughts?
@mattparlmer And probably bringing it to people's attention is one element of that.
I'm just mindful of how good human societies have been at adapting in the past.
Humans have always been better at inventing tools than using them wisely. A new film out today raises the alarm on how tech is being used to manipulate our minds & society on a daily basis. A must-watch for anyone old enough to open a social media account: https://t.co/2LwmTDzpmz
I'm not of the belief that companies have too much of a responsibility to applicants, given how low the barrier is to go ahead an apply.
But this from @digitalocean is really nice.
What they do particularly well? A clear timeline and a kind sign-off ❣️
@WebWallen In my experience, I noticed no matter how many I followed my Twitter feed mainly showed the same people -> presumably those who's tweets I engaged with the most.
Currently switching over to lists except for mutuals. Have no idea if it will help, but I'll def see mutuals more.
@justmarkham That said, it looks really useful for getting into building pipelines and understanding that. There's a decent amount to break apart there.
@justmarkham My concern with this is I feel like data problems need to be solved with intimate knowledge of the data and the context.
Smashing a pipeline through some unknown data doesn't seem to translate to the work of a Data scientist.
Caveat: I'm new to this, and often wrong about stuff
Gonna join the chorus of people recommending @dwarkesh_sp's The Lunar Society.
You never really knew what "needs no introduction" meant until hearing Dwarkesh introduce Robin Hanson of Tyler Cowen.
@jack_meditates My follows got out of control like that and I realized I was still only seeing the same few people anyway.
Making the switch over to following lists instead.
