Lloyd Wright, son of Frank Lloyd Wright, entered a 1925 competition to redesign downtown LA and proposed something closer to an acropolis than a civic center.

He envisioned City Hall at the highest level with courthouses and government buildings terracing beneath it. All connected by walkways above while cars, trains, and subways moved underground.

City leaders passed and chose a far more modest renovation instead, and Los Angeles ended up with the civic core it has today rather than the one he imagined.
