@Undorkins@joewrote And your still be bitching about dead kids in the Middle East while your neighbors get rounded up because you don’t understand how American politics works.
@margieriita American exceptionalism and chauvinism.
They cannot imagine what being on the other side is like. If a foreign military was occupying them (or even at a base) for the benefits. And of course the system is predatory! The US ruling class want expendables to do their dirty work.
Their crimes are always mistakes.
This word is doing extraordinary work.
A mistake is when you miscalculate.
When you act in good faith and the outcome is bad.
Three million dead in Vietnam: mistake.
A million dead in Iraq based on fabricated intelligence: mistake.
Decades of funding death squads across Latin America: mistake. Or complicated. Or a different time.
The word "mistake" contains an entire theology.
It preserves the intention.
It says: we meant well, it went wrong, we are still the people who mean well.
The alternative word, "crime," does something the theology cannot survive.
Crime implies a perpetrator.
Crime implies a victim with standing.
Crime implies accountability.
So it is never a crime.
It is always a mistake.
Always.
Across every administration. Every decade. Every continent.
The most consistent mistake-makers in modern history.
The thing is genocide is not and has never been in danger of being 'watered down'. In fact it has been maliciously rhetorically gatekept when it should be expanded and railed against. Our acquiescence to 'slow' genocides is precisely what primes us to accept genocide in Palestine
@Kni7es@kenklippenstein I must be living under a rock. Why don't you send me something or summarize the answer for me. Should be easy since it's so obvious. What has he done to redeem himself?
@bhangbhangducx It makes sense that the former Abu Ghraib guard would understand the nuances of sexual violence and how it's about power and domination. His feminist theory really informs his violent murder-rape fantasies. He even clarified that it's not a gay sexual fantasy. Woke win!
They watched Iraq burn on television and called it Shock and Awe.
Shock and Awe.
They named the massacre of a civilian population after the experience of watching it from a safe distance.
Not "the bombing campaign."
Not even the sanitized military euphemism.
Shock. And. Awe.
The aesthetic experience of the people watching.
Not the physical experience of the people dying.
This is what empire does to the psychology of its citizens.
It turns atrocity into spectacle.
It turns the suffering of distant people into a viewing experience with a brand name.
And the people watching from their living rooms were not monsters.
That's the point.
They were ordinary people whose entire psychological architecture had trained them to receive distant violence as entertainment, as proof of power, as reassurance.
The monsters are the architecture.
@hasanthehun There is no double standard. If you apply your standards universally, both parties fail. You understood this about Harris and the genocide in 2024. What has changed?
https://t.co/CR6FI1IsmI
@capamerica2025@MarcoFoster_ Republicans have no standards and enjoy being hypocritical. Dems pretend to care so the gop shove it in their faces when they can.
For the people who apply their standards universally, both Republicans and Democrats fail. There's no double standard.
@NotYourRock@samaraliwarsi You're not wrong. I don't know how to explain or reckon with how depraved and inhuman American selfishness culture is. Many do not extend humanity to people outside their household.
That's why literal imperial propaganda can somehow be seen as an anti-imperial awakening.
isn't it funny how being anti-cop & anti-ice is a universal statement but being anti-military is a taboo that will get you called a classist. isn't it interesting how we only judge systems of power when they harm americans but they are not that bad if they affect the global south
“Violence is never the answer,” I say sagely from the comfort of my home in a country that has over 800 military bases in 85 countries around the world.
Only an American brain full of hubris thinks you have the right to escape poverty by murdering and raping the world. You didn't dare to fight against those who kept you poor though. Godless civilization.
