@johncrickett it has been explained lots of times. The difficulty is not "coherent or compilable token generation", but correctly selecting data structures that make the program cognitively manageable and performant in real hardware, with real resource limits in computation, energy, etc.

‼️ BREAKING: Mozilla has rotated the GPG subkey that signs Firefox and Thunderbird Linux artifacts after an unencrypted copy was committed to a private GitHub repository.

The key is used to sign tarballs, RPM packages and checksum files.

Mozilla says its audit records show no unauthorised access, and the old key is revoked.

Alignment and safety is not some magical bullshit that we need to waste time writing pseudo philosophy in Less Wrong about or that people need to be hardcore incentivized to pursue.

Honestly, who wants to buy a freaking machine that goes off the rails?

Or doesn't do what you want?

Or a robot the forgets to turn off the stove off and burns down the house?

Or a self driving car that crashes all the time?

Alignment and safety is the same as it's always been in other industries. You build bridges to stand up and not fall down.

AI is just another product. It's software.

Misalignment is just a software defect.
