A new investigation called “Hondurasgate” alleges that leaked audio recordings expose a plan to build a U.S.-based digital media operation to spread political attacks and disinformation against Mexico, Colombia, and political opponents in Honduras.

The alleged targets included Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, and Honduran political opponents.

Reports also say the recordings reference Donald Trump, Javier Milei, Juan Orlando Hernández, and international right-wing networks.

This is the model people need to understand:

Fake news operations do not always look like random lies online. Sometimes they look like media pages, influencer networks, anonymous accounts, clipped videos, paid content, and repeated talking points until propaganda starts looking like public opinion.

When hundreds of accounts suddenly say the same thing the same way, that is not always organic.
