🤝DEAL DONE: The 5th largest distribution centre in the world is in #SouthAfrica and it has officially been handed over to its new tenant: Pick n Pay

Some quick facts about Pick n Pay’s brand new Eastport Logistics Distribution Centre in #Gauteng developed by Fortress Reit Limited.

🔵 30 000 is the number of fire sprinklers that will be installed.
🔴 110 000m2 is the size of Pick n Pay's old DC in Long Meadow.
🔵 360 000m2 is the total size of the new site under construction.
🔴 164 000m2 is the total size of warehouse that will be under roof.
🔵 200 000m2 is the amount of roofing and cladding to be installed.

Warehouse Layout:
🔴 45 000m2 - temperature controlled DC
🔵 90 000m2 - dedicated to ambient grocery DC
🔴 12 000m2 - returns centre as well as more ancillary buildings over and above this.

SENS announced on 5 June 2023 that Pick n Pay will no longer purchase their designated 60% share of this joint venture. Originally Fortress was to end this deal by retaining a 40% share of their development - now Fortress will own 100% of this distribution centre.

It is certainly a sad sign of the times to see @PicknPay lose enough confidence in SA to pull out of this investment. Uncertainty is rife throughout South African business and the working environment presents daily challenges from unstable politics to constant blackouts. The new Pick n Pay distribution centre is the biggest single-phase warehousing development in South Africa.
