i was in a 4 year relationship and not once did i post that man. on year 5, i decided to post him on his bday for the first time, no crazy caption at all, you could swear it was a platonic rshp. I kid you not, within 20 minutes, i received a w2w DM and that’s when the relationship ended.
According to psychology, the urge to immediately fix a partner’s or friend’s distress instead of just sitting with them in it isn't empathy; it is your own low frustration tolerance. When someone you love is hurting, and you instantly jump into problem-solving mode, offering unsolicited advice or trying to find a silver lining, you are often trying to soothe your own secondary anxiety. You aren't rescuing them from their pain; you are rescuing yourself from the discomfort of witnessing a vulnerability you don't know how to hold.
Your excuses can be completely legitimate and still be the reason that you never made it. You know, the bank doesn't accept trauma as a payment method. Your childhood might have been terrible, you might have grown up without a father. You may have been betrayed by everybody that you trusted. All of that is real. All of it's valid, your pain and your potential, they both live in the same body. Every single day you wake up choosing which one gets to drive. You can hold onto the excuse forever. You can tell the story to anybody that will listen and every single person would nod and say,I understand, but understanding doesn't change your bank account. Sympathy, doesn't build your future. Validation doesn't pay your bills. The most dangerous excuse isn't the weak one, it's the valid one because when your excuse is legitimate, you can justify staying stuck forever. Nobody will ever challenge you. Nobody will ever push back. They'll just let you stay there, comfortable in your pain, validate you and your failure. And meanwhile, somebody out there has the same story as you, same broken home, same setbacks, same trauma, and they decided their past was a reason to go harder, not a reason to stop. Same circumstances, different decision, that's the only difference between the man who made it, and someone who almost did. I'm not saying to forget what happened to you. I'm saying, stop letting it alter the rest of your life. You can acknowledge the wound and still refuse to let it write your entire future. Those are two very different things. So understand your reasons are real, your results, they don't care. And at some point you gotta decide, do you want the excuse or do you want the life.
This is why I struggle with Moja Love. The constant portrayal of our people as dysfunctional, incompetent and chaotic is deeply uncomfortable. It’s harmful stereotypes about our own communities.
An older guy once told me “you’ll reach a point in life when you accept that you’ll never achieve your dreams”
I check in with myself from time to time to make sure I never start believing that loser bs
Best career advice that I can give: Don't ever attach yourself to a person, a place, a company, an organization or a project. Attach yourself to a mission, a calling, a purpose ONLY. That's how you keep your power & your peace. It's worked pretty well for me thus far.
Yamal, son of immigrants (Moroccan dad + Equatorial Guinean mom) growing up in a working class Mataró neighborhood, enters a UNICEF raffle with hundreds of local families competing for a spot.
He wins.
Then, among ~20-25 Barca players in the 2007 calendar shoot, he was randomly paired with a young Messi.
Rough odds?
•~1 in 300+ for winning the family raffle.
•Then ~1 in 20-25 for the random player draw.
Combined: roughly 1 in 6,000–7,500 chance this exact pairing happens.
Yet here we are in 2026, they are meeting to compete for the biggest trophy in football . Destiny doesn’t miss.
Walahi, nothing is random in this universe.
