Team India’s fitness standards have fallen off a cliff. Under Virat Kohli, fitness was a way of life. If you weren’t fit enough, you didn’t play. The captain led from the front and the entire team followed.

Today, we’re busy managing workloads every second series. Players keep breaking down, and injuries have become the norm rather than the exception. Even the captain, Shubman Gill, has had his share of fitness concerns. You cannot ask the team to maintain elite standards if the leaders themselves aren’t setting them consistently.

Jasprit Bumrah who calls himself the fittest player from team India can’t play a three match series and the BCCI has to think twice before playing him.

A World Cup isn’t won by talent alone. It’s won by the XI that’s available on the field. If your best players are sitting in the dugout, their talent means nothing.

The BCCI needs to stop lowering the bar. Bring back ruthless fitness standards. Otherwise, don’t be surprised if injuries cost India another ICC trophy.
