I am not making an argument that the Palestinians don’t have a right to govern themselves. I am just being practical.

In light of the governance failures in Gaza over the last 18 years, I don’t see a world in which the Gulf states and/or the U.S. or others invest resources in helping to rebuild Gaza unless they have confidence in the governance of New Gaza.

Over the last 20 years, $40 billion or so has been invested in Gaza, a substantial portion of which has been invested in tunnels, rockets, graft and corruption and educating a generation of youth to hate and destroy Israel.

What government is going to invest anything in rebuilding Gaza without confidence that the mistakes of the past don’t get repeated?

That’s why I proposed that the same nations being asked to fund the rebuild of Gaza are the same ones that oversee the governance of Gaza.

And again, I simply proposed a trial balloon in the hope of progress and eliciting other better ideas.

For those who question my ‘right’ to propose solutions, I don’t have any right but my right to free speech. And others also of course have the right to challenge and/or dismiss my ideas.

My hope is that by opening up the discourse with ideas, we get closer to answers for a seemingly intractable problem.
