That feeling when your suspicions are verified with a professional & you take a huge sigh of relief that you haven’t been going crazy the past 10 years - you’ve actually parented like a badass despite feeling like an absolute parenting failure 💪🏽#parentingadhd#ADHD
Talk to me about #adhd and #consequences for undesirable / unsafe behaviours… or taking someone’s word for it without having to experience the ‘thing’ first hand - eg. that grill pan is hot, don’t touch it.
Desperately trying to parent my teen with empathy but not doing so well
I understand there are adults who recognise characteristics, try to own it and employ strategies to live with ADHD as best they can.
The point I’m trying to make is some are using it as an excuse.
Unfortunately, some conversations I’ve had with adults who are recently diagnosed have resulted in my annoyance as they seem to wave their golden ADHD ticket around like a pass to being a terrible human.
“Sorry I insulted you, it’s my ADHD”
“Sorry I let you down, it’s my ADHD”
Learning more about #listening & #attention.
Fascinating, the relationship between #adhd characteristics being flagged up in schools as child turns 5/6 & how integrated attention develops around this time too.
Understanding #learning & #behaviour impacts on my son much more.
@translatingadhd Help me learn abt #adhd & #consequences for undesirable / unsafe behaviours… or taking someone’s word for it without having to experience the ‘thing’ first hand - eg. that grill pan is hot, don’t touch it.

@garethkthomas and trying to support the school as a parent, but knowing they weren’t meeting his needs. Sent me potty looking at that pie chart every day!!
@garethkthomas I’m my opinion, as a parent of child diagnosed with impulsive/inattentive #ADHD, this was a huge factor in the breakdown on my own mental health - knowing he was doing his best to keep it together in an environment that wansnt suitable, but getting negative marks for off task…

@ADHDFoundation So interesting. I wonder which accounts are good to connect with for information on parenting teens with #adhd, particularly #inattentive and #impulsive.
15yo was undiagnosed until this year. #parentingadhd
