This Black History Month,
I want to remind you of who we are.
As Earth, Wind & Fire sang,
“We are people of the mighty.”
As my father said, “Yes, I’m Black. I’m proud of it.
I’m Black and beautiful.”
We are human beings of varying roles who descend from a diverse people. Not all were kings and queens. Some were teachers, farmers, artisans, and more.
Still today, Black people in America are diverse.
Innovative. Industrious. Inventive.
Some formally educated. Some not.
Some prospering. Some not.
Our “status in life” does not determine our worth.
We are beloved of God as
postal workers and professors.
As a former First Lady and President.
As people.
We are not apes.
“I would like to be remembered as a person who wanted to be free... so other people would be also free.”

One of my former research assistants was killed by ICE in Minneapolis today😢
Alex was the kindest, sweetest human and a ICU nurse with a bright future ahead of him
May his soul rest in peace and this senseless carnage stop💔
We've gotten a lot of questions from journalists worried about raids after what happened to the WaPo reporter.
We can't stop the Trump admin from illegally seizing your devices, but here are 3 easy tips to mitigate the damage and protect your sources:
"I want to get the language so right that everyone here will cry out: Yes, I'm black, I'm proud of it. I'm Black, and I'm beautiful!" - #MartinLutherKing (1967) #MLKDay
We honor the life of Claudette Colvin, whose courageous refusal to surrender her seat as a teenager in Montgomery, Alabama was one of several acts of resistance that challenged segregation before the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Ms. Colvin later became one of the plaintiffs in Browder v. Gayle, the federal case that reached the Supreme Court and led to the end of bus segregation. Her life reminds us that progress is shaped not only by moments, but by sustained courage and truth. May we honor her legacy and continue the work of justice.
University of Alabama suspended publication of two student-run magazines, claiming they weren’t in compliance with federal guidance on DEI
“This is an attack on the student press and nothing less”

We heavily associate Zoot suits with Harlem but it also has shared origins with the South. Memphis to be exact - A tailor named Louis Lettes had a famous storefront on Beale St in Memphis that popularized them to the Blues + Jazz musicians that played in the clubs along Beale St.
"I don't want a Disney vacation of our history! I don't a whitewashed history, I don't want a homogenized history. Tell me the wretched truth about America, because that speaks to our greatness" -- 20 hours into his speech, Cory Booker is spitting absolute 🔥
I’ve taken the Senate floor and will speak for as long as I’m physically able to lift the voices of Americans who are being harmed and not being heard in this moment of crisis. Watch here: https://t.co/oN0WUxF0si
