A Jeju police officer was arrested today for deliberately shutting down missing-person cases — not one or two, but roughly 298 of them. He told families their loved ones were safe, then quietly deleted the cases from the missing-persons system.
The case cracked open because of Jang Mi-ran's disappearance, which turned out to expose a far larger cover-up.
Jang Mi-ran, 37, went missing on May 12.
Her boyfriend reported it, and the officer assigned to the case told him he'd reached her, that she was safe, and that she didn't want her location shared — then closed the file that same night. It later emerged there was no record police had ever actually contacted her.
Once the officer was identified and implicated, investigators went back through his past cases. Between August 22 and 24, they found four bodies of people who had been reported missing — Jang Mi-ran among them, found 104 days after she disappeared, just a few minutes' walk from where she'd been staying. The other three were men, two in their 60s and one in his 70s.
Since prosecutors' authority to conduct supplementary investigation was abolished, public anxiety has been mounting over how a single officer could kill hundreds of cases with almost no way for anyone to catch it.

This Jeju Island case is actually disturbing. 😳
A 37-year-old woman, Jang Mi-ran, disappeared in Jeju on May 12. Her boyfriend reported her missing three days later.
But instead of properly investigating, a police officer allegedly told authorities that he had contacted her and that she was safe even though police records reportedly showed no such call ever happened.
The officer allegedly went further and deleted her information from the police missing-person system, effectively closing the case.
Her family kept searching, and the investigation was eventually reopened. The officer was later arrested after investigators reportedly discovered another missing-person case that had allegedly been handled in a similar way.
Then yesterday, 104 days after she disappeared, a body believed to be Jang Mi-ran was found in a grove in Jeju reportedly only about 1km from where she had been staying.
Police say there were no obvious signs of foul play so far, and the exact cause of death still needs to be confirmed.
But imagine if her case had been properly investigated from the beginning. 💔
A woman disappeared. Her case was allegedly falsified and closed. Her family kept looking. And more than three months later, she was found dead.
The investigation into what happened and why that police officer allegedly did what he did is still ongoing.
my sister came from school crying about how a teacher constantly targets her for no reason and as usual my dad took teacher’s side and my sister crying YELLED at him “grow a fcking spine and stand by your kid for once” & i’ve never been so proud, cus i swallowed all of that
just found out that wikipedia has banned ai generated content (which honestly makes it even more reliable) kinda ironic lang considering how our high school teachers used to tell us that wikipedia wasn’t a reliable source. 😭
I have a student who hasn't been attending our online classes. I sent her a msg & found out na nagbabantay pala siya sa nanay niyang maysakit sa ospital at di din daw siya makapagload dahil wala na daw silang pera. Naawa ako. Sinimot ko yung konting natira sa gcash ko for her./1

i hate exams so much but I love learning i wish there was a system where no exams were needed and you could study any subject u want and there would be a option to choose frw subjects where u didn't have to give exams and just learn and have fun that would be awesome
