Last week, I chatted all things grocery prices with @sfchronicle. From Iran War to tomato #tariffs, the headlines you read often show up in the form of higher prices on grocery store shelves.

Santa Ana shoppers aren’t up at night wishing their city council would restrict the use of self-checkout, they’re worried about affording their next trip to the store.
"And let’s be honest about a broader frustration many Californians share: when was the last time government actually reduced your cost of living?"
@ocregister on proposed #SantaAna self-checkout restrictions that would increase grocery prices.

Had a great time talking grocery with @Sacbiz, covering everything from how immigration impacts local stores to #SNAP concerns and much more.

“This seems like a clear example of why Californians pay the highest prices for groceries, regardless of what checkout line they go through.” via @ocregister#SB442

Californians want life to be easier, not less convenient and more expensive.
#SB442 by @Lola_Smallwood seeks to bog down self-checkout with more restrictions and rules. It will slow down the shopping experience while making groceries more expensive. #caleg
The #caleg should start by pressing pause on any bills that will increase prices on grocery store shelves. #SB442 and #SB753 are two bills that don't benefit Californians, but will cause prices to rise.
Lastly, the belief that it’s unfair to offer loyal shoppers discounts in exchange for their continued support is simply silly. That’s exactly what a loyalty program is and every shopper understands the dynamic.
There are so many flaws in this reporting…first of all though, it’s worth noting all of these @kroger hit pieces are dropping during contract negotiations.
What is the price of personalization for grocery shoppers? Kroger’s profitable data collection methods lead to more questions than answers. Here’s what you should know: https://t.co/0ncKp3Xhga
Instead of working to make California affordable, it appears many elected officials are reading from the same, tired playbook. And we already know how this turns out — the highest grocery prices in the country.

Every trending topic on social media — every newspaper headline — informs the prices you see on grocery store shelves. The uncertainty around tariffs strains operations and challenges grocers' ability to plan ahead.
I remember when I worked for the @SacramentoKings and the media scrum opened up to “bloggers.” Despite the eye rolls at the time, the team’s coverage improved as new voices entered the fray.
You are the media now.
The White House Press Secretary just announced that they will be allowing independent content creators to attend official press briefings.
The gatekeepers are gone.
The future belongs to creators.
The Nanny State bill to regulate self check-out lanes in supermarkets was NOT part of the retail theft package in the #caleg for good reason -- there is no nexus @LolaForSenate. It's a dishonest argument you make to @lindseymholden https://t.co/qq437Shk2d
🤯After spending millions securing their stores and suffering through rampant retail theft in recent years, @LolaForSenate told @politicoca California grocers don't have "skin in the game." Who's going to tell her? #caleg#SB1446
Every elected official asks how they can get grocer xyz in their district, but they often don’t consider how policies push grocers away (as seen in the data below).
This #caleg session it’s #SB1446 and its totally needless sabotaging of self-checkout.
