Not only are Christians the only people that it is socially acceptable to mock… it’s actually celebrated and put front and center when it happens.

Remember the words of Jesus: “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you (John 15:18).”

There will be a day that mocking turns into fear of the One true God. Hopefully, it happens before it’s too late.

When the question of identity is answered at the core of our spirit, we find an anchor of solid footing that keeps us secure, no matter the circumstances.

They do not reach the spiritual aspect of our existence— where the question of identity must be answered.

Identifying with something and finding identity in something are two separate ideas

Identifying with any one of these categories is not where the trouble lies.

The trouble comes when we allow these things to tell us who we are because these categories are all surface level, relating to the temporary physical aspect of ourselves.

The trouble with identity is that there are any number of things to which we attach our sense of who we are:

Relationships
Occupation
Politics
Religion
Body shape
Skin color
Socioeconomic status

Without a firm foundation on which to stand, the complexity of our existence, leaves us frantic for a foothold.

Identity gives us that foothold.

Remember, we are not physical beings that sometimes have spiritual experiences…

We are spiritual beings, temporarily having a physical experience.

Identity that strange and elusive concept that determines who or what a person is…

We are beings who, by default, grasp for orientation in this life.

That’s what identity brings us.
