अल-उत्बी (Al-Utbi): यह महमूद गजनवी के दरबारी इतिहासकार था । इसने अपनी किताब 'तारीख-ए-यामिनी' (या 'किताब-उल-यामिनी') में गजनवी द्वारा भारत में मंदिरों को तोड़े जाने और अकूत धन (सोना-चांदी और मूर्तियां) लूटे जाने का बहुत ही विस्तृत वर्णन किया है ।

अल-बरूनी (Al-Biruni): ये एक प्रसिद्ध फारसी विद्वान और इतिहासकार था जो महमूद गजनवी के साथ भारत आए थे । इन्होंने अपनी पुस्तक 'किताब-उल-हिंद' (Tahqiq ma li l-Hind) में भारत की तत्कालीन स्थिति, समाज और गजनवी के मंदिरों पर आक्रमणों का आंखों देखा या प्रत्यक्ष विवरण दिया है ।

अबुल फजल अल-बहाकी (Abul Fazl al-Bayhaqi): इन्होंने 'तारीख-ए-सुबुक्तगीन' नामक पुस्तक में गजनवी साम्राज्य के इतिहास और महमूद के मंदिरों के लूट अभियानों का विस्तार से वर्णन किया ह���।

ख्वाजा निजामुद्दीन अहमद: इन्होंने अपनी किताब 'तबाकात-ए-अकबरी' में भी महमूद गजनवी के आक्रमणों और मंदिरों में लूट (विशेषकर मुल्तान और आसपास के क्षेत्रों में) का इतिहास लिखा है ।

फिरदौसी (Firdawsi): गजनवी के दरबारी कवि, जिन्होंने प्रसिद्ध महाकाव्य 'शाहनामा' लिखा । इसमें महमूद के मंदिरों को तोड़ो लूटो अभियानों और उन पैसों से गजनी के वैभव का वर्णन है
