I fully agree that we should have a step-by-step approach focused on quality, rather than unnecessarily rushing into later stages and creating abnormal tissues. We cannot properly culture human embryos until 14 days and should probably focus on getting the first steps right.
A new call to revise the limit to culture human embryos, currently not allowed beyond 14 days (start of gastrulation) to 28 days https://t.co/ELMShvG0pF.
There is a general consensus that this should be the case and I agree to and support this proposal. However…..🧵

A pleasure for @EmielGenderen and myself to be able to contribute to this study that helps build solid foundations for conscientious modeling of human development through robust and efficient protocols. Doing science together with such people is a privilege. Thank you @grazianone
With pleasure we share our preprint reporting robust and cost-effective expansion of naive human Pluripotent Stem Cells without feeder cells. A fantastic collaborative effort with @leeboratory@JZylicz @vincentpasque @Nrivron

We are happy to contribute to this exemplary collaborative study aimed at improving the efficiency of working with human naïve ESCs without MEF feeder cells. It is a pleasure to work with @grazianone, @JZylicz, @vincentpasque , and @NRivron

The deadline to submit an abstract for a talk in the 2025 SY-Stem symposium ends today!
SY-Stem - a symposium focusing on the next generation of stem cell researchers - is organized by IMBA and the @IMPvienna. Register here: https://t.co/o4horlekhv
Happy New Year! I look forward to the #ISSCR2025 annual meeting in Hong Kong and hope to see you there to talk about how to use #blastoids and all other stem cell based embryo models to make important scientific and medical discoveries! https://t.co/3o3MzOch0H @ISSCR
Have you ever wondered how your back formed? The human embryo makes a neural tube (future spinal cord) and somites (trunk muscle/bone) from ~d20. They’re formed at the same time and place, so we used human Trunk-like Structures (hTLS) to investigate their ‘co-development’… (1/7)
My goal is to understand the regulatory role of every nucleotide in the genome, and how this changes across every cell in the human body.
If you are interested in doing a Ph.D. with me @UMassGCB, see the links below. Deadline is Dec 1st.
PhD program applications at the Vienna BioCenter are still being accepted through October 15. This is your chance to contribute to life sciences research and discoveries in the @juliusbrennecke, @Tanaxolotl, @NRivron, and @arburga Labs.
We are launching a crowdfunding campaign for LUMIRIS!!(Mon 23rd) @CapitalCellNet

I’m thrilled to finally see the main project of my PhD in the @leeboratory out in #NatComms. Congrats to all authors and collaborator @NRivron !
We identified FoxO transcription factors as crucial AKTors in the naïve to formative pluripotency transition.

We are hiring a PhD student in our lab to discover the genetic code and regulatory innovations underlying the evolution of human blastocyst implantation. Our new colleague will use human blastoids, advanced single-cell genomics and bioinformatics approaches. Please join us!
