Meanwhile, we have members of Congress who are more worried about who is using what bathroom there than about potential cabinet members who have committed sexual assault and statutory rape.
Why is there not more complete and utter outrage about the horrible misogyny in our world? From Gaetz to Hegseth, Pelicot to P. Diddy, the biggest news stories are all about horrific abuse of women. This is not a left or right issue. This is a human issue.
Proud of @proffontana, who has a piece in the New Yorker today on how the value of place is playing out in the 2024 presidential race https://t.co/qEpn0hrtmn
3/It’s not a perfect gender divide. Barrett mostly votes with the guys—with some exceptions like her concurrence in the Trump ballot disqualification case, or the Jan. 6 SOX case where Jackson votes with the conservatives and Barrett joins the libs. Theories???
1/The 6-3 conservative-liberal divide on the Court has gotten a lot of attention. But there's another 6-3 divide that has been mostly overlooked: gender. And the all-female liberal bloc makes for some very bad gender dynamics.
2/When the majority calls out the dissent in the Trump immunity case for “strik[ing] a tone of chilling doom that is wholly disproportionate to what the Court actually does today,” it sounds like they are a bunch of hysterical women who have let their emotions overcome reason.
Can we please stop calling Biden too old? This plays on stereotypes about age. It's not that he's old. It's that he lacks the skills needed for the job.
And why are Dems only calling on Alito to recuse rather than resign (or be impeached)? Trump called on Ginsburg to resign for calling him a faker. This is giving major asymmetric constitutional hardball vibes.
When did Alito become such a supporter of spousal independence? He says his wife makes her own decisions. This is the same judge who in Casey (3d Cir.) voted to uphold a law requiring women to notify their husbands of an abortion because they make these decisions together.
@paisleycurrah Excellent review. Love the idea of gender as tool rather than fundamental to conservative governing. Take IVF decision in Alabama. When men (and capital) are behind reproductive rights, you get swift action supporting it!
So I am not in favor of current sex-based affirmative action practices, but it is more complicated than this piece suggests. For more, see https://t.co/FnOLRaOsp0. /5
Affirmative action policies that focus on gender balance rather than disadvantage don’t get to the root of the problem--and are probably just unfair. By putting the brake on race-based affirmative action, the Supreme Court has made doing this the right way only harder. /5
