For years, we have heard that modern Xn people are "making an idol" out of marriage and having children. But I have seen the stats on marriage and birth rates. It's a record low for the Christian West and for America. If we have had this form of idolatry for the last 40 years in the Western Church and in the US, we must label our predecessors in Christendom as even greater idolaters who bowed before the idol of marriage and family with even more fervor--a zeal that makes ours seem pale. We must declare that their idolatry ran rampant. And as reformed people, we should start with the Puritans. What tremendous fools they were to cherish marriage and family so deeply!
It grieves me that this talk has arisen again and now it seems it is coming even from "conservative" reformed camps and tribes. Let us abandon the silly notion that this form of modern idolatry is common and so wide spread that it really and broadly endangers the Church in the West. Oak trees abound in the land, but there are too few men who are made in the mold of Boniface and willing to chop down the idols. Let us use what axes we have to strike at the idols doing the most damage to the most people in our churches and nations.
God have mercy on us! And if you are single but desiring marriage, may the Lord bring you a godly spouse. And if you desire children (or more children), may the Lord bless you richly for His glory.
today I’m grateful for @ZGroff
he’s been a constant source of encouragement to me in my ministry, even during hard times
selfless in his service to the PCA, prudent, kind, and strongly conservative
we need more like him leading the PCA!
@samandw@DavidEdgington I don't care for her take here. I think some women DO make marriage an idol, but not most women. It's usually career & independency that's the idol. But calling her a bimbo is just insane. She's the opposite of a bimbo.
“Nuclear Family Month” is political, not biblical
My home state of Tennessee has declared June “Nuclear Family Month” as a way of pushing back on Gay Pride Month.
Indiana just followed suit. Who knows how many other states will do the same.
Here's the problem: they're saying the quiet part out loud, and they don't even realize it.
People advocating for this and thinking it's a Christian slam dunk on LGBT+ rights don't seem to know their bible: the nuclear family isn't a biblical idea.
It’s a modern, western, secular, individualist idea that Christians in America failed to resist over the past century.
Check out the consistent research by biblical scholars like Joseph Hellerman in his book "When the Church was a Family".
Christian family is the body of Christ bound by the blood of Jesus.
If you want to push back on sexual immorality with God's design for sex and gender, fine. But don't use a secular idea that's antithetical to God's family.
It's a self-own. And it betrays what this might really be about.
It’s not about sexual discipleship, family, God, purity, or sanctification. It’s about doubling down on a secular idea that most effectively excludes LGBT+ people and single people and poor people in multifamily/multigenerational homes.
What is real biblical family? When Jesus used that word, what did He mean?
For 1st century ancient near east people, “family” was a wider circle of 10-15 people who included siblings, parents, friends, spouses, and kids.
Interestingly, commitment to one’s siblings was greater than that to a spouse.
But regardless, it wasn’t nuclear family.
So if you want to push back on sexual immorality with biblical wisdom, be my guest. But people claiming that the nuclear family is Christian are either biblically illiterate or their real goal is just to be homophobic.
I don’t know which is worse.
As for me and my house, I'm going to gather with brothers and sisters in Christ this month
and seek the Lord.
Maybe we'll declare it “Body of Christ Month” for our church family :)
Comment/DM “JESUSFAMILY” for how to build family today like Jesus did (and where “nuclear family” really came from
Notice how this guy is just casually chewing gum like he's off the lan waiting for his Uber. Pressure and counter-pressure. Hand fighting and wrist control. You love to see it, Cotton. I would like to see shoulder pressure to the head and jaw, but that's just a personal preference.
WATCH: Passengers restrain a man onboard a Frontier Airlines flight to Chicago's O'Hare on Sunday after he reportedly tried to open an emergency exit door in an attempt to jump off the plane mid-flight.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, Frontier Airlines flight 3345 heading from San Juan, Puerto Rico to O'Hare was diverted to Miami International Airport about 11:55 p.m. after the crew reported a passenger disturbance. The flight then landed safely in Miami, the FAA said.
Henry Nowak is dead because of the insidious concept of “White guilt.”
And if we don’t purge this utterly destructive and evil ideology from the West, it will kill us all.
55 TE/REs in the PCA signed a letter urging Rio Grande Presbytery to investigate @ZacharyGarris over his biblical views on slavery, hermeneutics, and PCA race statements. I fully support our process in the PCA and support these brothers' right to request an investigation.
After a full BCO 31-2 examination, the Presbytery found him not guilty on the main charge.
Let that sink in.
Dozens of officers raised significant questions, and the court cleared him on the central issue. There should be some serious reflection by those who initiated the investigation, and I trust a posture of humility in light of the result.
Almost 14 years ago, I was pursuing ministry in the Reformed Church in America (RCA).
A mid-certification interview was conducted by a group that included female clergy.
They asked about women’s ordination, and I politely told them I disagreed with it based on the Bible’s teaching.
They failed me on the basis that I didn’t “empathize enough with women.”
We are losing our culture in Tennessee and in America.
We've over-immigrated. Not only should we deport all the illegals, but we should also suspend all the H1B visas and suspend legal immigration until we can restore cultural values.
Chip in today to help us FIX Tennessee!
Catching up this AM…
My good friend @ZacharyGarris, his sweet family, and his wonderful congregation deserved better treatment from Rio Grande Presbytery.
It is astounding to me that the men responsible for pastoring the regional expression of the PCA in New Mexico decided to bar a preacher from fulfilling his calling and rob a church of their minister over what amounts to banter on @X. I’ve seen the supposed victim of said banter post far worse (i.e., malicious) things online.
It is hard to conclude anything other than Rio Grande Presbytery chose vindictiveness over equity in finding Zach guilty and then levying a censure of indefinite suspension. This result is prima facie so incredibly over the top, out of balance, and inappropriate. But I confess that I don’t know all the facts of the case, and I’m certain that more of the story will be told on appeal to the PCA’s Standing Judicial Commission of the General Assembly.
May Christ’s honor and ministry in His Kingdom prevail over all folly and wickedness in His Church.
God bless the PCA.
@GaiusXrp@not_our_guy They wouldn't. That's why this is clever. It's Xns saying, "No one should do this thing that our God hates, including us." All while we Xns intended to refrain from making the monkey monument in the first place.
@GuyJones1111@not_our_guy NLT, my man, that's the point. Xns wouldn't build that kind of stuff. He's being clever for humorous effect at the expense of the pluralists.
Travesty that a man sits w/ charges for over 1-2 yrs before church
If guilty, u allowed an unrepentant to minister for extended period
If innocent, the cloud/shame/stress hangs over an innocent man & there's no recovery of reputation
Do better. Praying for @ZacharyGarris
