On #WorldEnvironmentDay, we celebrate India's rich natural heritage and reaffirm our commitment to conservation.
Home to over 70% of the world's wild tigers, India has emerged as a global leader in wildlife conservation through sustained efforts in habitat protection, species recovery, technology-driven monitoring, and community participation.
Tiger reserves not only secure the future of our national animal but also conserve critical ecosystems that support biodiversity, water security, carbon sequestration, and climate resilience.

We in India are very proud of our biological diversity. Our diverse ecosystems support countless species and livelihoods. Our efforts in special recovery have also been noteworthy. Conservation efforts for the Great Indian Bustard, snow leopards, sloth bears and Cheetahs have given a glimpse of how sustained commitment can help restore wildlife and ecosystems. Initiatives such as ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ have made significant contributions towards adding nearly 1.19 lakh hectares of forest every year.
Guided by the principle of ‘One Earth, One Family and One Future’, we will continue working towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable planet through the spirit of Mission LiFE.
As we mark #EnvironmentDay today, let us renew our pledge to remain 'Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.'
Nature is our greatest ally in the fight against climate change. Every tree we plant, every ecosystem we restore, and every sustainable choice we make strengthens our collective future.
Let us work together to build a greener, cleaner and more resilient India for generations to come.

Best wishes to everyone on World Environment Day. I would like to applaud all those passionate about environmental conservation. This is a day to reaffirm our commitment to protecting our environment and furthering growth that is sustainable. Numerous efforts by our Government over the last decade highlight our work in this direction. Some of India’s key successes include expanding green cover and a rise in the population of several animals. The people of India have shown how collective efforts, policies, belief in science and innovation can improve our environment.
Over the last 12 years, under PM Shri @narendramodi ji's environmentally sensitive leadership, India has made great strides in wildlife conservation.
At a time the world is losing wildlife, India continues to ensure they thrive and prosper.

The All India Tiger Estimation (AITE), launched in 2006, is conducted once every four years and has completed five successful cycles so far.
Recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world's largest camera trap wildlife survey, AITE has transformed wildlife monitoring in India. Beyond estimating tiger numbers, it provides critical insights into the status of co-predators, prey populations, habitat quality, and landscape connectivity.
The information generated through this exercise plays a vital role in guiding conservation planning, strengthening management interventions, and addressing emerging challenges across India's tiger landscapes.

Every four years, one of the largest wildlife monitoring exercises in the world unfolds across India's forests.
Thousands of forest personnel, researchers and conservationists work across vast landscapes to estimate the population of tigers, co-predators, prey and their habitats.
As the 6th All India Tiger Estimation is underway, let us explore the science, technology and fieldwork that make this remarkable exercise possible.

Remembering the legacy of Dr. H.S. Panwar, former Director of Project Tiger (1981-85) and one of the architects of India's tiger conservation movement.
A pioneer of scientific wildlife management, his vision, leadership, and enduring contributions helped shape the course of tiger conservation in the country. He played a defining role in strengthening efforts to secure the future of tigers and their habitats.
His legacy continues to inspire and guide conservation efforts across India's tiger landscapes.

From snowy peaks to tropical jungles, big cats guard our wild spaces.
The #IBCASummit2026 brings together global leaders and experts to build a shared roadmap for action.
The future of wildlife conservation starts here.
Behind every number is a shared responsibility.
7 iconic big cats span landscapes that support biodiversity, regulate climate, and sustain communities across the world.
Through the #IBCASummit2026, India is convening nations to scale conservation where it matters most.
In its gaze lies the health of our forests.
The tiger is more than a majestic predator - it is a guardian of biodiversity, water security and ecological balance.
When the tiger watches, nature thrives.

Project Cheetah continues to demonstrate encouraging progress, with the population reaching 53, including 33 Indian-born cubs. Strong survival rates, successful acclimatisation, and expansion across landscapes such as Kuno and Gandhisagar highlight the effectiveness of scientific management and reinforce the project’s long-term conservation potential.
