TLDR: we make identifying and prioritizing crime hot spots too hard. At just the “top 10” most criminogenic places for a given crime type there is a disproportionate share of crime. Meaningful crime reductions could be achieved by focusing on just the “top 10” micro-level places!

1/ Been quiet for awhile on X but hoping it's still a place to share NEW research! Recent article in JOEX with Frederick & Cubitt looks at the potential criminogenic effect of safe consumption sites in Toronto. Lots of *loud* discourse on SCSs and if they produce or prevent harms

5/ The results add important nuance to the discussion of SCSs and their potential unintended negative consequences like crime. We found that crime generally did not change due to SCSs but the location of an SCS and crime distribution around it may be unique and situational.
