🚨 White Man tries to kidnap Black woman by pretending to be a cop — she gets rescued by truck driver.

In Aiken County, South Carolina, a young woman who had just graduated ran into traffic on a rural road, begging for help. She had escaped a white Cadillac after 39-year-old Jonathan Willard posed as a police officer, handcuffed her, took her phone and diploma, and tried to run her over when she fled.

Truck driver Anthony Moore stopped his rig. The woman jumped in as Willard approached claiming to be law enforcement. Another driver called 911 and helped remove the handcuffs.

Willard took off but was quickly arrested and charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and kidnapping.

Misdemeanor charges are NOT enough when a 110-pound Black woman suffers a broken nose, black eyes, and other serious injuries after being repeatedly punched by a police officer! I joined CNN with Cherrie Moore's family to make clear: accountability must match the harm inflicted, and that these charges against the former Shelby (NC) Police Department officer should be elevated. We will keep fighting for justice.

Another painful reminder that voting rights are still under attack. The Supreme Court has allowed Alabama to use a congressional map for the 2026 elections that eliminates one of two majority Black districts, even though a lower court had found the map intentionally discriminated against Black voters.

We must be honest about what is happening. When Black voting power is weakened and fair representation is denied, democracy is weakened. We cannot afford complacency in this hour.
