@BrianaRoseLee I've been traveling across the US full-time for the past 8 years and I can tell you that this weird tribal "othering" phenomenon is prevalent almost everywhere. I met someone who had lived in Montana for 30 yrs and said they didn't feel like they could call themselves a local.
@SarahBBeverly@0Beanie05923291@TheJacobTurner I get that. I grew up in a huge family of athletes (32 cousins, at least half ended up college athletes) and there were many family gatherings where everyone ran around together, giving us a chance to bond because there were far fewer tourneys/games that needed to be prioritized.
@0Beanie05923291@TheJacobTurner It's tough on the adult relationships, too. The games/tourneys get prioritized over family functions because "they've made a commitment to the team". This means less connection to their cousins, aunts/uncles. I've seen some families navigate this with grace, but not many.
@BilgeEbiri We've been doing this a lot lately—revisiting the classics of the late 80s & 90s. Once we started, I wondered why we didn't start sooner. I was drawn to doing this after realizing a lot of new movies lack the levity of the 90s and many are just downright dystopian.
@LargeFamDad For 25 years (20-45) I pleaded with doctors for a tubal ligation. Every time they all said the same thing—you'll change your mind. My husband went into one appointment and asked for a vasectomy—he had the operation the following week. That's why.
@LaGrecca333 I am 47, from MN, and have always known I didn’t want kids. For years, every woman I knew encouraged me to have kids. Sadly, many parents over the years have confided in me about regretting THEIR decision. I think for most, having kids is the right path, but for some, it is not.
@deumcole All these excuses are virtually non-existent in small town rural areas where I’m from. The people are affected by the same economic conditions but appear to prioritize starting families over economic comfort.
@JGeorge49 I believe in the people who live on the range, but I do not believe in foreign mining companies whose only job is to satisfy the boardroom or employees whose livelihoods depend on them being in lockstep with that boardroom.
