As a TUC delegate, I’ve been on the picket line at Birmingham Crown Court, supporting members of the Criminal Bar Association who are striking for an increase in Legal Aid fees. Barristers who do Legal Aid work are as badly paid as NHS dentists.
I was invited back to chambers by a barrister for a cup of tea and a chat. As in dentistry, young newcomers to the profession are either leaving the profession completely or going into legal work where they can earn a decent living wage. The senior barrister I spoke to is
