Zooming in on number lines. Had a fab lesson with my Y4s today as we came away from our scheme to look at multiples of 1,000 and 100 and 10 in more detail before rounding. Used thinking from our #cambridgemathshub session on Sustaining Mastery #ncetm. Excellent reasoning.
Connections and pattern spotting while learning times table facts. These children are making links between 60s and 59s. Fascinating to hear their reasoning about the patterns in the connected products and how they can derive 59s from adjusting 60s. Free training coming soon.
Y4 pre-teaching, we used two counting sticks to count in 25s up to 200 and back. Cardinality also represented with base ten and 100 divided into 4 equal parts. Love my pre-teaching slot, I learn so much and reflect on my teaching through observing this little group of pupils.
Great session using the Demo board for group work on carpet. So many other resources, like the counting stick, hide the repeated group size. This drives the structure of repeated addition multiplication so letβs make it obvious to the children. Key products are put on first.
Numberlink Boards cleaned and ready for their 3rd year in constant use! Lots of photos of how to use this versatile resource coming up in the Autumn Term.

Just preparing wow maths week on fractions for my Y3 class next week. Coming away from the textbook! π Lots of practical activities to get the children thinking deeply about fractions. Off to make lots of play dough π will post some photos and reflections as we go along
@numberlinkboard Fascinating session on numberless word problems with Katie Crozier and Claire Gerrard, really resonates with work I've done on word problems #MAConf21@Mathematical_A
Thoroughly enjoyed learning and presenting at the #MAConf21 Always find them such inspirational events. Shame we couldnβt mingle and make new friends but was very well organised online. Feel particularly inspired by Dr Nira Chamberlain @ch_nira and Dr Hannah Fry @FryRsquared
Numbers between the multiples! 21 = 5 x 4 + 1 Such an important step between multiplication and division that I used to miss out. I think the dots make this really clear. Join me tomorrow for free training to find out more. https://t.co/TeGGb9V8Vf
Preparing my Spring 2 Y3 lessons on multiplication and division. Numberlink Board will help to draw out patterns and connections. Come along to the free Numberlink Board Training session on Tuesday 23rd February 4 - 5:30pm to find out more. https://t.co/TeGGb9V8Vf
This week my Y3 class has made lots of connections between the 4 and the 8 times tables. We've been great pattern spotters! Come along to the free Numberlink Board Training session on Tuesday 23rd February 4 - 5:30pm to find out more. https://t.co/TeGGb9V8Vf
Designed a great activity today to help my Y3s with number magnitude. Empty 0 to 100 numberline on top with numberline with divisions marked below. Children folded paper in half to hide the marked numberline. Estimate, check and review. They loved it and improved quickly.
Used the Numberlink boards today with my Y3s. Four times table 1x 10x 5x derive. Lots of pattern spotting. Loved the Turntable game. Free training running after half term for anyone interested. Will organise over half term and send out details.
