Amidst endless diversions by the regime to deflect citizens' attention from the recent electoral fraud and Uganda's deepening moral and institutional collapse, these words by retiring Judge His Lordship Stephen Egonda-Ntende at his farewell sitting yesterday could not have come at a better time. The Judge urged the judiciary to search deeply within itself for a soul.

He boldly condemned the injustice and cruelty of continuing to jail comrade Waiswa Mufumbiro without bail beyond the constitutional limit, moreover on a minor offence, to the extent of denying him the chance to accompany his children to bury their mother, his wife, the late Edith Katende.

Indeed, as the good Judge suggested, no Ugandan should ever be treated like this again by their own country!

Erute South MP Jonathan Odur confronts committee chair at Munyonyo over the #ProtectionOfSovereigntyBill2026.

He challenged the directive to adopt the committee report without debating the bill clause-by-clause.

The joint committee passed the report anyway — 22 votes to 11.

A group of dissenting MPs is now drafting a minority report to table on the floor when the bill goes for second and third reading this Tuesday, May 5.

These months have been very difficult for all of us, but even much more difficult for our President. Election rigged. Comrades abducted, tortured and others raped. His two Deputy Presidents among those abducted. The third one arrested and charged with terrorism. His Home attacked by the military. Forced to flee for his life. Home attacked again. Wife assaulted. Property vandalised. Items stolen. Edith Mufumbiro dead. Quickly followed by Hon. Hellen Nakimuli. Not able to physically say farewell to these, his beloved friends,because he is forced by circumstances not to be around. Not because he committed any offence, but because he dared challenge the Museveni regime.

He and his family need our prayers. They need our support. Leading an organisation that is hounded left, right and center in such times isn't an easy task.

God hasn't been good at NUP in 2026.

Started by removal of the internet and its supporters were massacred in darkness.

Election was rigged at all levels from president to councilor.

NUP president went into hiding and ended up in exile

Wife to the president was attacked and tortured.

Two female deputy presidents were abducted.

Deputy president muwanga kivumbi was arrested and in prison.

President's PA's wife was abducted.

Waiswa's wife died and he was denied bail to go and bury her.

And now they have lost a member of parliament.
