@F_Manga18 @GracenoteLive My guess is they did this to keep the teams to play in the same country as much as possible. To avoid long trips between New Zealand and Australia.
In WC 2002 (Japan/South Korea) they did the same thing, resulting in Brazil and Turkey facing off in both group stage and semi final
