Shakespeare to Hausa sounds like rocket science. Even native speakers of the English language find Shakespeare difficult to understand. It's centuries old it almost sounds like a totally different language. I'd love to see the translation and original work. I've not had a headache in a while. ๐
For this interview, I consulted a 50 year old recording from FRCN archives which I got from my cousin.
Baba-Ahmed's Hausa was never fluent, despite spending decades of his life in Zariya.
His Arabic however, is absolutely superb.
This is why it is interesting that his sons are very versed in Hausa language to the point that one of them translated Shakespeare's works into Hausa.
