महाराष्ट्र, बरामती की बैंक ऑफ बड़ौदा शाखा में एक ज़िंदगी ने खुद को खत्म कर लिया। हमने खबर बनाई और हम आगे बढ़ गए।

शिवशंकर मित्रा एक जिम्मेदार अफसर थे। हर दिन बैंक में आने वाला एक मैनेजर… लेकिन कल रात वे वहीं से लौटकर नहीं आए। क्यों? क्योंकि उन्होंने उसी ऑफिस की दीवार से फंदा लगा लिया!

लेकिन उनके सुसाइड नोट की चीख कौन सुनेगा? इंसाफ कौन करेगा? 

"मैं हार गया... इस काम के बोझ ने मेरी सांसें छीन लीं।"

और तब भी मरते वक्त भी…उन्होंने लिखा- मेरी आंखें दान कर देना।

क्या कोई समझ सकता है उस शख्स का दिल, जो मरते हुए भी किसी और को रोशनी देना चाहता है?
अब सवाल है...
- क्या बैंक की कुर्सी पर बैठे लोगों की जान की कोई कीमत नहीं?
-क्या सिस्टम को तभी जागेगा झटका लगेगा जब अगला शिवशंकर अपनी जान लेगा?
- हम कब मानेंगे कि इंसान ‘टारगेट मशीन’ नहीं होते? किसी बैंककर्मी ने पहली बाद ऐसा कदम नहीं उठाया है।

हर दिन की डांट, हर दिन की डेडलाइन, हर दिन की दौड़। कहीं ये सब किसी की ज़िंदगी की आख़िरी वजह तो नहीं बन रही?

शिवशंकर चले गए। लेकिन पीछे छोड़ गया कई सवाल। ऐसे सवाल जिनके जवाब नहीं मिले तो हम न जाने और कितने शिवशंकर देखेंगे।

I have a few questions for the MD of @bankofbaroda, Mr. Debadatta:

Your bank’s logo is called the Baroda Sun.
A sun that is supposed to eliminate darkness and bring light.

Your bank claims to offer a rewarding career to its employees...

So if there’s still any life left in this so-called sun, then please answer the following:

Why was so much pressure put on your employee, Mr. Shiv Shankar Mitra, that he was forced to take the decision of opting for VRS?

And even after submitting his VRS application, why couldn’t this Baroda Sun bring light into his life?

What pushed him to the point where he ended his life?

You speak of removing darkness and spreading light.
Then why did some of your own officials together destroy the life and hopes of Shiv Shankar Mitra and his family?

Will your bank now take strict action against those who mentally tortured an honest employee to the point of suicide?

And I also have a question for the Union @aiboboa

Is the union only meant to collect monthly subscriptions, organize meetings at tourist destinations, and then post those meeting photos on WhatsApp groups and on X (Twitter)?

Till 10 AM on 19th July 2025, not a single association of Bank of Baroda posted anything about this incident.

The General Secretary of AIBEA @ChVenkatachalam - who calls himself the 'My friendship with humanity' - has time to post political opinions online,

But when a bank officer dies by suicide due to toxic work culture, he doesn’t have a moment to write even two lines about it?

Bank leaders keep publishing fake demands to justify today’s strike.

Listen to their videos -
not a single bank union name,
no UFBU,
no bank leader even visible.

They’re not even talking about bank issues!
Yet these so-called leaders are dragging bankers into a strike for nothing.

It is truly disheartening that India’s Finance Minister @nsitharaman ji tweeted praises for @TheOfficialSBI and @canarabank — appreciating everything

from their profits,
branch expansion,
financial inclusion efforts,
to the number of social security schemes opened.

She remembered all the figures.
She quoted every achievement.
But what she forgot to mention were the bankers behind those numbers.

The same bankers who spent
sleepless nights,
stayed away from their families,
endured harassment from both the public and management,
and were betrayed by their own unions—

they made these achievements tweet-worthy.

Yet not a word about them.

If only our Finance Minister had considered even 0.01% of the human side of banking,
she might have taken one real decision in favour of staff welfare.

Like separating bancassurance from core banking responsibilities.

If the public is facing inconvenience due to #5DaysBanking , then fine — don’t give 5-day banking.

But isn’t the public also facing trouble when they’re misled and mis-sold insurance products?

Then why not let those who are actually trained and qualified for it—handle insurance?

Let bankers do what they’re hired for: FDs, CASA, and loans.

And let insurance professionals handle just insurance.

Because bankers are not machines.
They are the backbone of the system you're applauding.

Bankers aren't asking for luxury. We're asking for logic.

If 5-day banking is “too much to ask”…

Then why should @RBI , @DFS_India , @LICIndiaForever & other govt depts enjoy 2nd & 4th Saturday off?

Even the Supreme Court has withdrawn that privilege for its own staff.

We demand equal work hours.

Or stop using "equality" as a one-way weapon to exploit bankers.

But since then, things have gone from bad to worse.

Then why this exception with bankers?

Why meet only banking unions — some of which have become enemies of the very bankers they claim to represent?

We request you to meet real, ground-level bankers directly.

Hear their stories.

Help restore the vision Indira Gandhi had when she nationalised banks in 1969 — banks that serve the people, not the powerful.
