Congrats to @NYCParks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura on receiving @workersjusticep's '26 Labor Champion Award!
The recently opened City Hall Park Deliverista Hub shows how parks and open spaces can serve working NYers, advancing dignity, safety, and equity.

@NYCMayor must permanently fund 115 staff whose contracts will expire in July. And @NYCCouncil must add 276 critical positions to ensure thriving parks.
"@NYCCouncil is seeking to add $40M to @NYCParks' upcoming budget — with roughly half going toward effectively quadrupling the number of PEP officers... 'Every neighborhood park would be affected [by @NYCMayor's proposed PEP cuts],' NY4P said."

Safe connections to parks are essential infrastructure!
Tonight (6/2) at 6:30pm, CB7 is considering a transformational redesign on 72nd St that would improve accessibility for NYers traveling to Riverside Park and beyond.

🚲 We were out on West 72nd Street asking Citi Bike riders what businesses they bike to, and we learned that biking is not only practical (people ride pretty much everywhere), but that everyone we spoke with was also eager for the improvements on West 72nd Street. 💚 🧡
Speakers highlighted a proposal to transform Driggs Ave thru McCarren into a pedestrian-friendly plaza, adding nearly 1.5 acres of new public open space, plus initiatives to expand open space for NYers, like @NYCMayor's plans for Grand Army Plaza and McGuinness Blvd.
We're closing the window for founding members TONIGHT. Join now to become a Parks Pioneer!

"Given Flushing Meadows Corona Park's outsized role in NYC, one would imagine funding to maintain it would meet at least a minimal standard. One would be wrong: across budgets and administrations, the park has been neglected."

Rita has been swimming at the Metropolitan Pool for nearly 70 years! That is, until its closure over a year ago due to mechanical issues.
She rallied with NY4P and fellow Brooklynties in March to demand the reopening of Metropolitan Pool & Rec Center, a vital community resource.
