Shame on any @FCBayern or @AFCAjax player, coach, or club official willing to pocket money stolen from poor Kenyans by a corrupt tyrant desperate for cheap political mileage. SHAME @HKane
Kenyans Launch Campaign Urging Bayern Munich and Ajax to Cancel Friendly Amid Ruto-Era Abuses
Kenyans have begun contacting FC Bayern Munich and AFC Ajax to demand the cancellation of a planned friendly match in Nairobi.
The campaign calls on both clubs to suspend the fixture on the grounds that staging it under the current administration would associate their brands with a pattern of documented abuses against critics and dissenters.
Supporters of the effort point to ongoing campaign of abductions, extrajudicial killings, assassinations, and the use of the courts to target political opponents of British-backed war criminal and mass murderer William Ruto.
They argue that a high-profile match at a stadium named after a disgraced “opposition” figure would be read as an endorsement of the conditions under which those actions continue.
Campaigners are directing messages to those channels, stating that participation would leave a lasting mark on the reputations of the clubs and present their players as participants in a publicity exercise for an administration whose term ends next year.
The organisers further contend that the venue itself carries a separate record. The stadium is named after a dead demagogue who spent his lifetime sabotaging successive political movements meant to liberate the nation from colonial chokehold, entering into back-to-back “handshakes” with successive regimes since 1998 while abandoning the opposition he claimed to represent.
In his final act of capitulation before death, he joined a governing coalition and benefited from the deaths of young protesters, including Rex Masai, who was killed in a targeted gun-down by police, caught on CCTV cameras during peaceful demonstrations in June 2024. Campaigners maintain that neither the administration nor the stadium’s namesake provides a platform free of that history.
The organisers contend that neither Bayern nor Ajax requires the match for competitive or developmental purposes. They describe it instead as an optional commercial engagement that can be declined without material loss to the clubs.
The argument advanced is that the short-term visibility obtained from playing in Nairobi does not outweigh the longer-term cost of being linked, however indirectly, to the record of enforced disappearances and judicial harassment that has characterised the period.
Ruto’s presidency is scheduled to conclude in 2027. Campaigners maintain that neither club has a structural interest in furnishing a departing administration with an international sporting platform while the underlying conditions remain unchanged.
Bayern Munich and Ajax have not yet issued public responses to the correspondence. The campaign continues to circulate the clubs’ official contact addresses and to frame the request as a straightforward matter of brand protection rather than a political demand directed at the Kenyan state.

@sholard_mancity Ukona maneno mingi. Kalonzo got what he deserved. He provoked for the reaction and he got it. It was disrespectful of him to come to Sifuna's event and play Sifuna's presidency down infront of his supporters who want nothing else but a Sifuna peesidency. Its not rocket science.
@iMiaSanMia All these people were killed by the police under this ruto regime there families are still crying for justice, the culprits are still free and roaming around, the economy is hard for everyone but yeah we got money for @FCBayern and @AFCAjax for friendly WANTAM
@iMiaSanMia@FCBayern and @FCAJAX2 .... in all humanity, boycott this match.
In a country where people are dying in hospitals in shared beds without medications and an idiot of a president , a serial looter wastes money on non necessities is wrong
@iMiaSanMia It's immoral if Bayern agrees to this! You just can't sanitize an evil and corrupt person for campaign purposes while the country is bleeding in bad governance and abject poverty. Protests might erupt and that's bad pr!
@iMiaSanMia Why would @AFCAjax and @FCBayern want to be associated with a murderous and most corrupt individual?. What message are they sending? Those 2 clubs should just keep off. They are being used to create a narrative that Ruto is popular!!
@iMiaSanMia 5 million euros just to fly around privileged white men who already have too much money for a 90 minute useless match is diabolical. I stand with the people of Kenya.
1 billion is the cost nurses who were on strike few months ago were asking. They had a strike for over 40days.
We know it has nothing to do with a @FCBayern and @AFCAjax , but please dont participate in a spectacle that leaves citizens more deplorable while your already rich players, good livelihoods add more unnecessary Euros to their pockets.
This is a petition to not be used in a political debacle against a badly impoverished citizenry. Our own team few weeks ago boycotted a match until their accrued allowances of 89,000 per person were paid. 89, 000 is about €600.
@iMiaSanMia None of both teams should show up in Nairobi! We are fixing Kenya’s corruption & theft of public resources from the current corrupt government officials who have stolen & mismanaged billions of dollars in corrupt undertakings!
