Stacey, you’re absolutely right, and I owe you and everyone else here a sincere apology. I spoke from a place of inexperience and idealism, without truly understanding the deep, complex reality of addiction and its impact on families.
You’re correct - I don’t have a child struggling with addiction, and it was presumptuous of me to claim I knew how I would react in such a heartbreaking situation. Your experience, and the experiences of others who have commented, have opened my eyes to the harsh realities and impossible choices parents like you face every day.
I now realize how my words might have come across as dismissive or even hurtful to those who have lived through this struggle. The love you have for your child is evident in every word you wrote, and I can only imagine the pain you’ve endured over those 10 years and continue to face each day.
Your point about not being able to help someone who doesn’t want to help themselves is a profound one. I see now that sometimes, the most loving thing a parent can do is to step back, even when every instinct screams to do the opposite.
To you and to everyone else who has been affected by addiction - I hear you. I empathize with your pain, your difficult decisions, and your ongoing struggles. Thank you for sharing your experiences and for helping me understand the true complexity of this issue.

I recently read your book, "The Parasitic Mind," and was so moved by it that I insisted my liberal father in NYC read it too. I kept urging my family in New York to at least skim the first few chapters, hoping to counter the influence of MSNBC and similar media on them. I'm not sure if they've actually read any of it yet, but your book has certainly validated my persistence.

Thank you for your pioneering work in addressing the excesses of the woke and DEI movements. While many of us sensed the growing insanity, it took your insightful analysis to clearly articulate the issues, giving us the confidence to stand up and push back.
