A TORNADO JUST SET A NEW UTAH WIDTH RECORD...

The NWS has rated the September 18 Francis Peak tornado in Utah as an EF2, with estimated winds of 120 mph. The tornado traveled nearly 6 miles and reached an incredible 1.1 miles wide, setting a new record for the widest tornado ever documented in Utah.

But perhaps even more remarkable was the terrain it crossed. The tornado climbed 3,500 feet in elevation as it moved up Francis Peak, reaching around 9,500 feet, before descending another 3,200 feet.

That means the tornado experienced a staggering 6,700 feet of total elevation change during its brief 16-minute lifespan.

Despite the extensive tree damage, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
