I was at a gathering with friends. Talked to more and more people who thought Charlie Kirk was a racists. They had no facts. They just went with what social media sound bites told them. His death sparked their curiosity. They watched his videos, even the ones considered controversial. The verdict. He was not racist. He was just telling uncomfortable truths many have developed an aversion to. Because he was the “wrong color” telling it, many took offense. Yes they disagreed with some things. But for the most part; he was just being honest and wasn’t trying to hurt anyone.

The lesson here. Whether it’s Kirk, Trump or any figure that the world is telling you to fear; do the opposite of what is natural. Don’t just accept it. Dig a bit deeper. Sound bites and memes are dangerous weapons. They lack context.

Remember the “Very fine, people” hoax. Even I fell for that one.

As Americans we have to do better. I don’t care if the person being vilified is from the left or the right, we have to be more diligent and dig deeper.

This is how we heal and grow.
