Nehru-Patel differences

According to a declassified 1950 Central Intelligence Agency report, Prime Minister Nehru's conduct of India's affairs encountered strong opposition from Deputy Prime Minister Patel.

Patel was reportedly charging that Nehru had:

(1) tossed away the potential benefits of closer ties With the US and UK in the unrealistic hope that India might achieve lasting friendship with Communist China and the USSR as well;

(2) failed to make a sufficiently determined effort to come to terms with Pakistan; and

(3) frightened away foreign and domestic investors with the spectre of socialism at a time when India has urgent need of private investments above and beyond the funds the government itself can obtain.

This is from a declassified file and was seen by Pt Nehru. There should be plenty of records with the IB. Today, on the birth anniversary of Muthuramalingam Thevar, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan recalled meeting Thevar, who, he rightly pointed out, was a very spiritual man who never lied. Radhakrishnan expressed his belief that Netaji never died in any plane crash. Countless Indians and PIOs world over share that belief despite all attempts to suppress the truth.
