19 years ago today, Girls’ Generation made their debut.
Often referred to as the “Nation’s Girl Group,” Girls’ Generation played a pivotal role in the global expansion of K-pop during the late 2000s and early 2010s with record-breaking hits like ‘Gee’, ‘Genie’, ‘Oh!’, ‘The Boys’, ‘I Got A Boy’, and the cultural anthem ‘Into the New World’. They were the first Korean girl group to headline their own world tour and among the first K-pop acts to break into the Japanese mainstream and appear on major U.S. television. They are one of the best-selling and most-awarded artists in South Korean history, with over 30 million records sold and more than 100 awards won.
To the first group who brought me into kpop, who saved me more than I could count, who taught me about resilience, work ethic, professionalism, friendship and more over..
