This phase of my life is reminiscent of ~10 years ago, when I just got into tech. I thought I had fried my brain, and that was why I couldn’t understand some programming concepts.
I had no other option, so I kept moving.
My journey into entrepreneurship with @purple_ledger, while working a demanding 9–5, has been tough, but I’ve eliminated every other option bar entrepreneurship for my future self.
@__ciox__@andugocodes This is not a matter of ego. Those requirements are NOT a small price to pay.
If you’re unemployed, have enough money for your bills, and have “a PC (not a phone)”, then by all means be their guest.
But let’s not pretend like those requirements aren’t bizarre for a bootcamp.
The new tax law has raised a lot of questions and emotions, and that is understandable.
Now that it is in effect, the practical move is understanding how it works and using its reliefs and exemptions to protect yourself.

@eta_habyb People who talk like this never think they’ll be at the end of a gun’s barrel; they think they’ll be doing the killing (or delegating it) when the proverbial shit hits the fan.

The Nigerian tax law is new, and many independent earners are still unsure how it affects them.
When applied correctly, there are certain reliefs and exemptions in the law that can help you minimize your personal income taxes.
I never knew a law could frustrate me as much as the Tax Reform Acts have.
Yesterday, myself and a colleague were working on a piece when we discovered a significant change in Section 195 and 196 of the "re-gazetted" copy from what used to be the content. (See images + alt to understand)
This isn't a minor edit. This isn't a clerical error. This is a total substitution of provisions. And it's not a good thing because imagine you have issued a legal opinion on one Act in circulation, and there's a difference copy that says the opposite later!!! Clients think you're incompetent, no?
Recently, I defined small coy as one having an annual gross turnover of N50m and fixed assets at N250m here. Someone innocently "corrected" me that the gross turnover is N100m. The question is what was to correct when I quoted a gazetted copy of the law I had in my possession?
Let me show you a very clear disparity here: In image 1, Section 196 (j) repealed the Taxes and Levies (Approved for Collection) Act, 2004. In image 2, it's not one of the Acts listed as repealed!!!
Does that mean the Act is no longer repealed? What happens where I had advised that the Act in question has been repealed?
The crazy thing is that there's no clarity till date! It's been a total shjt show!
And yes, we need to ask the right questions. What do you mean we have different gazetted Acts in circulation, and what the heck do we mean "re-gazetted" or "final gazetted" law that is materially different from the initially gazetted law?
Do you "re-gazette" a law without the National Assembly going through the process of authenticating it and having the president sign a finally ascertained one again?
The Acts Authentication Act (which should be reviewed and amended anyway) states the procedure for passing a Bill into Law and printing same. If this Acts went through that process, why is it so difficult for the National Assembly to trace where things went wrong and bring the culprit to book???!!!!
