Critics of choice programs say they don't have any guidelines and they're a free-for-all. Actually, education savings accounts are full of guardrails and this state-by-state guide breaks down all of them. Learn more by clicking the blog link in the comments below.
She started with 14 students and a clear-eyed view of what families were missing.
Four years later, Lacy Horne's Abide Christian Academy serves 100+ and is launching a full high school. No tuition increase.

Over the weekend, Louisiana legislators passed SB 1203 and expanded what's possible for families and educators. The bill authored by Sen. Edmonston protects the freedom to build small, personalized learning cooperatives outside traditional classroom walls. 👏
Hot take: we should be able to teach almost every child to read proficiently by 4th grade, regardless of income, race or parents’ education
Instead this is where we are:
Public school enrollment is plummeting nationwide.
Some say it’s all by design.
Others say schools are losing families because they stopped focusing on academics, discipline, and accountability.
What’s your take?
Bottom line: academic success works best as a shared responsibility! Schools provide instruction and clarity. Parents provide reinforcement, expectations, and structure. When both show up, students benefit most!🧑🎓🏫 Share this with a parent you know!
New research on parental involvement in education reinforces a key point: student success improves when parents are meaningfully engaged—but not all involvement has the same impact. 📈
School transparency also plays a major role. Parents can’t reinforce what they don’t understand—access to curriculum, progress updates, and clear communication strengthens the home-school connection.📝
If paired with retention for those students who do not become proficient by fall, this intervention would work. Unfortunately, it’s another voluntary program in which those who meet the most are least likely to engage.

We keep fighting for New Mexico students even after the school bell rings. Our free Summer Reading Program gives K-8 students focused, small-group literacy instruction all summer long. No income requirement and free to participate.

Charter schools are a school choice model that allows for more innovation and freedom than a traditional public school. Charters have been very successful in closing the learning gap for students, especially those from typically underserved demographics.

This National Police Week, we honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who put their lives on the line to protect our communities every day.
We remember the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice and thank those who continue to serve with courage and dedication across New Mexico and our country. 🇺🇸
Even New York’s Democrat governor is opting into the federal school choice scholarship program.
New Mexico ranks dead last in education. Our families are desperate for better options. If Kathy Hochul can put students ahead of politics, @GovMLG you should too.
It makes a ton of sense for states to opt-in. All federal taxpayers can get the $1,700 tax credit next year.
If a state decides not to opt-in, it just means that taxpayers in their state will be funding education for kids in other states.
Now make THAT make sense!
Dear @GovMLG and @NMPED — if we truly believe every New Mexico child deserves the opportunity for a better education, then that opportunity should be available to every K–12 student, not just a select few. Refusing to opt into the federal Education Freedom Scholarship Fund denies New Mexico families additional pathways to improved educational outcomes and the ability to choose what works best for their children.

Imagine hating a parent’s right to choose an educational setting other than traditional public school so much, that you would block federal dollars flowing to ANY NM eligible student in need.
Sens. Heinrich and Lujan co-sponsor bill to repeal federal school tax credit that will provide school choice while also helping charters and traditional public school despite NM being dead last in education:

Obviously giving a tablet to a 4 year old is total madness. There is no upside for the child. It’s all downside. Parents do it for one reason and one reason only. To keep their kids quiet and docile so that they (the parents) can spend more time on their own devices.
Today, Oklahoma lawmakers passed legislation to expand the Parental Choice Tax Credit to empower more Oklahoma families to choose the school that works for them.
